Huh. Interesting! I wonder how they went about collecting that data though. I take all of these psychology statistics with a grain of salt - goodness knows, not everyone practices valid research techniques. |

My psychology book said that most people dream of failure more than success. I know I personally dream of failing, or being late, or being lost almost 95% of the time. My only guesses as to why this happens is that A)Most people have low self esteem that carries into dreams or B)A logical person in an illogical world is bound to fail. |

I more often dream about what I want or desire... |

Hmm. Now that I think about it I guess most of my dreams have no purpose at all. Things are just happening in a number of different contexts around me... I'm not involved at all... strange, never given this much thought... |

my dreams are almost always like fantasy stories, I have a purpose which i find out at some point or a reason and the actions i do can make me succeed or fail at it. but most of the time i suceed at what i am trying to do. however a lot of the time it is very difficult, time changes, crazy robot cows, all sorts of wierd crap happens. |

~I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.~
M0rp8ix's twisted reality
well we dream about thinsg which are important to us. The dreams represent new thoughts. ways to eliminate problems inlife. |

Well, if you assume that a dream is a metaphysical manifestation of your society (i.e. environment) and if you feel empowered to pursue the veil of societal construct (i.e. false beauty, false security, false happiness, etc.) then of course you will dream of nothing but failure. However, the rectification of this problem is personal and lies in the pursuit of your identity alone. Why should society dictate who you are and why should it manipulate your dreams? This leads to a frightening dilemma: who actually has control? |
|
The evolutionary school of thought on dreams is that they evolved into a mechanism for a being able to practice tricky situations and try new things. Those whose brains tended to practice the hardest situations would then have a greater tendency to succeed in real life and not get eaten or something. So it makes sense that a larger proportion of our dreams would be under 'nightmarish' circumstances that would facilitate failure. Some dreams you repeat until you get right too. I recall a specific (non lucid)dream I had climbing a tower in a jungle, there was a section that was extremely difficult, and I would fall and then instead of waking up, I would just try again. I know I repeated that tricky part at least 5 times but i eventually succeeded. |
|
Well I have many dreams of me getting millions of dollars or something I desire, and I wake up right before I get it. |
|
This is pretty much how my dreams are. |

I think that reflects the fears of our modern civilisation. The fear of failure may be the most prevalent and deep rooted in our production and consumption society. Man is a fearsome creature and every age manifests its own set of major fears. Besides if that study was done in the USA, it would be a miracle, if fear wasn't be the main element. |
|
Failure is the key to success. Success is the sum of all your failures. Think about it. |
