      NREM vs. REM dreams

So for a long time I thought that dreams only occurred during the REM phase of sleep so it came as a surprise to find out that you also dream during NREM as well. I have a couple questions-
      1) are dreams in NREM any different than dreams in REM? Are different areas of the brain activated during NREM than during REM?
      2) I read that this is when sleep walking and night terrors occur- are those caused by the NREM dreams possibly?

      Thanks
      -Kyle

As I understand it REM dreams are the ones that are like movies - the ones we're all familiar with, and NREM dreams are more like just streams of thoughts or visual patterns, usually with no characters or story or action. And the NREM dreams are harder to remember.

I've had dreams with absolutely no visuals or just a plain grey field of vision where all I did was hear a song or think about ideas, and I've had dreams with just a simple still image that I was thinking about for a long time. I assume these were NREM dreams.

Non REM dreams are dull and uneventful. Usually nothing exciting happens, and if something exciting does happen, then it becomes an REM dream.

REM dreams are more intense. Since Night Terrors are super intense, I would wager they are of the REM variety.

I think one should be able to control their REM cycle from within a lucid.
