      My Dreaming Situation

Okay so I have 2 questions for all of you. But first off let me start with a statement. So I have found something very unique about my dreams. My dreams always revolve around what I was thinking about before falling asleep. Like last night my dream was about this girl I really like. Before I fell asleep I remember thinking that it would suck if she wasn't straight. So then in my dream last night, she starts making out with a girl. I know awkward right. Anyways this leads to my questions. First off does this happen to anyone else? Because when i ask my friends about their dreams, they say they just dream about random stuff that they never thought about at all. And second off is this a type of dream control? I know this is a long post, and thank you for reading it. And I would appreciate it if you respond and tell me what your dreams revolve around.

Well we experience dreams, not only one, throughout the night, and I am sure not all of those involved your girlfriend.

      Anyway about your question.

      1. I think not. Because my dreams are also just random stuff and not the stuff I last thought before drifting away to sleep.
      2. I don't think it was dream control. Because my meaning in dream control, is that in a total lucid dream, you can do things at will, aka control things. Just like the stuff the guys here are doing(such as shooting fireballs, flying, creating Dream Characters, turning into werewolf and etc.)

To your first question: Yes. I think it's fairly clear that to a certain extent, and though we might not realize it, our dreams reflect something we have experienced, usually recently. It occasionally happens to me that I'll dream of something I was thinking about right before falling asleep, but not always. More generally, I'll dream of something that happened recently or that same day, significant or insignificant. For example, I play a lot of video games, so my dreams usually incorporate some elements from games, especially those I have played recently.

As a side note, I kind of doubt that ALL your dreams revolve around exactly what you were thinking about as you were falling asleep: I'm sure you have some dreams that are only loosely related, or some dreams that have nothing to do with it but that you simply don't remember.

To your second question: No, I wouldn't call it dream control -- dream control usually implies conscious control of your dream once you have realized you're dreaming (that is, once you're lucid). What you are (unintentionally) doing is essentially dream incubation -- directing the content of your dreams by thinking about your desired dream as you fall asleep. The fact that you seem to be able to incubate dreams so easily may actually be very good news for you! There are a few tutorials/threads lying around that talk about dream incubation and using it to induce lucid dreams. One of them is VILD, which you might want to check out.

Wildman thanks for the info, and thanks for your input too suntok123. And to tell the truth for the last 3 months or so, whatever I think about before I fall asleep, is what I dream about. This is how it goes for me, I remember thinking about something before sleep. Then i dream that night. Then i wake up in the morning remembering my dream and how it revolved around what I had thought about before sleep. Sometimes I have multiple dreams about multiple things that I had thought about. Thats what I've noticed over the last couple months.

      ^ That's weird but amazing.

And Wildman's correct I think. I think I also dream about the things I last thought or things I thought the most the whole day. It's just they always get submerged into the void and fail to recall them, and only recall some dreams that are coincidentally do not involve those things.

Excellent observation. This happens to everyone. But it only influences your initial dreams for the night. And when it's not the last thing you were thinking about that influences your dreams, then it's the last hypnogogic image you saw them moment before you acquired your dream body. Either way, dreams form around what you have your attention focused on.

The reason your friends don't notice that happening is because your initial dreams of the night are the most likely to be forgotten. When you first fall asleep, you haven't entered REM yet, and as a result, there isn't a lot of action in them. REM dreams tend to be more exciting and are easier to remember.
