      MILD conflict?

Ok, so I've been researching MILD techniques into Lucidity, and I've kind of got a contradiction in my mind regarding the MILD.

A MILD is where you use power of intent to remind yourself to do a RC in the dream, so to become aware you're dreaming and enter into lucidity... My question is, wouldn't you need to be Lucid and Conscious already in order to " make yourself do a reality check "... If you were " asleep " your conscious mind wouldn't be able to " do a RC ".

If the only way to "control your dreams" is to be Lucid, it just seems like making your dream self do an RC would mean you are already Lucid?

Sorry if this comes off as dumb, as I am new to this lol

No, I have had dreams where the nose-plug RC has failed and i have missed a DILD. The RC is also for confirming you are dreaming, but when you do it every day it becomes automatic. Then when you see something strange in a dream, for instance a pink elephant, you do a RC automatically. That is the idea. Though you must still think of what you're doing, I have read about people doing a RC in their dreams. When they could breath trough their nose in the nose-plug RC, they didn't think what it meant and missed the lucid. I hope you got what I mean.

it sort works like so: do you know that if people constantly think about a specific thing that is important to them(like football or playing piano for example ) and fall asleep thinking about that and end up having a dream about that - MILD is an artificial way of doing that- by falling asleep thinking about lucid dreaming you give yourself a chance of actually doing something like noticing a dream sign or doing a reality check.

The RC doesn't make you lucid. It only confirms you're dreaming. When you get better and better, you will just KNOW you're dreaming without the need to RC. I still plug my nose, but that's only because I like how it feels.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

here it gets iffy, since I and others sometimes have LD's that start from a RC or where you do a RC just randomly for no reason in a dream- though whatever role they play it sure seems important Of course, sometimes you may not need em and just see how dreamlike everything is and become lucid but I still find RC's very useful even now.

Well, the idea is to make a mental note to remember the next time you are dreaming, which you remember during your next dream (hopefully). You're not trying to remember to RC, the best way I can put it is you're trying to remember to realize that you're dreaming. When you look at it that way, it becomes a more feasible thing, if you can remember, which granted is difficult. And you don't have to be lucid to do a RC either

That makes sense.. The phrase " You're trying to remember to realize " is awesome ( even though it does make sense )... Definitely Signature worthy

Lol, that's not new. I'm pretty sure you haven't read Exploring the world of lucid dreaming? That's exactly how Laberge describes it. You're remembering to recognize you're dreaming.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.
