      Sleep Paralysis? Not always....

      Good morning.

I've been reading here quite often, and trying to get a handle on the whole lucid dreaming thing. I've read where people listen to tones, and do reality checks. That's fine I guess, if it works for you. I've only been successful at doing a reality check once in a lucid dream, but I think that if I'm aware enough to check....then I'm aware enough to tell anyway.

My question is though....do you think this "sleep paralysis" always happens during lucid dreams? The reason I ask is that just this morning while I was dreaming...someone threw me a ball or something. In real world...my arm reached for it, and I knocked over my pad, paper, and my glass of water, which woke me from the dream. From what I've read you're not supposed to be able to move during dreams. Strange. Good thing I wasn't doing anything like pole vaulting.

      Comments?

I'm no expert on sleep paralysis, but I'd think that it's similar to one waking up from a dream and SP not having worn off yet. If these are isolated incidents, then it's probably not a big deal. It could happen. I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens more regularly.

Look up REM Atonia (the scientific term for what has come to be known as sleep paralysis among lucid dream enthusiasts) or REM Behavior Disorder. The latter is where SP doesn't set in, and people act out their dreams. It's not exactly the same as sleep walking, so don't confuse it with that.

      same here

I too experienced this with my first (and so far probably only) lucid. Or something similar. I was sitting at a table in my school cafeteria. I was able to VILD directly from a waking state WITHOUT SP (though I did fell kind of heavy). In the dream I was sitting at my dining room table at home, in the same position my real body was in. If I moved my real toes I moved my dream toes as well. It was really odd...noone else I asked had ever done anything like it.

Happens sometimes.Nothing you should worry about tough. For example while VILDing you might imagine letting go of a bottle and out of a reflex you try to catch it and your body does that, moves the arm.The ball think works the same-a shocking situation where you didn't want to be hit with a ball in the face xD
