If you want to increase your awareness in general, try meditation. As for trying to DILD, just do reality checks and live your life like it is a dream, that way, lucid dreaming will be on your mind. So basically, you want to make a habit that will trigger the thought in your head that says, "Is this a dream?"

That habit can be checking your hands, repeating a mantra such as "This is a dream" all day long, etc.
