Question Unable to DILD. Some advice?

I would love to know how to increase awareness on a dream. I seem unable to recognize dream signals, even though I be dreaming of a pink elephant with golden wings that speaks italian, I don't wonder. I fail to see dream signals! I dream of fantastic things all the time so how I induce myself to a reality check 'inside' my dream?

The only technique I used when I had 3 LD was reality checks, but I did them in the dream just randomly. Not because I was noticing anything strange!

      Any advice or help?

      Thank you!

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked."Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here." (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 6)

Dream signals don't do anything in terms of awareness. You have to be aware in general, and always be skeptical as to whether or not you could be dreaming. After all, you could be dreaming right now - just because you see a dream sign, it doesn't mean nothing is off.

Where did you get to where you are right now? Why are you doing what you're doing? Can you hear yourself breathe?

You don't question things when you're dreaming because they seem so real at the time. What's so different about real life - it feels real, but does that alone really mean you're awake?

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I see one problem which might be the cause. First of all, you are asking how to increase awareness while in a dream. What you should be thinking about, is increasing awareness in general. Learn to question your surroundings. Is something strange? Do a reality check every once in a while. Maybe look for dream signs, even when not dreaming.
You have to teach yourself a habit, really.

Well the only real "problem" is impatience. The thing is, DILDs are probably the least reliable lucids. Even after tons of experience with DILDs, you won't necessarily be really aware in your dreams unless you make a huge effort in waking life. By advice is to sit back and enjoy the wait. It took me a whole three months to get my first real lucid dream, but that was fine because I loved just being able to remember my dreams so well. Also, if it isn't much trouble, try starting to do MILDs, which aren't much harder but are much more reliable.

I notice the same problem, I try to do reality checks when I see new people because there is always a new person in your dream.

You should try to do a RC whenever you see something weird or something bad happens, that way you are questioning your surroundings a slight bit more. You should do it when you remember, you shouldn't fret when you realize you forgot to do an RC, you will eventually get the hang of it, and eventually get transfered over into the dream. Now, this isn't immediate (it took some time for me), but once it carries over, it should be responsible for a few lucids, even if it's not that many (I've only had two by that method ).

      I hope I helped!

Opposite with me, I barely ever see new people. Of course, I see strangers walking by, but I don't actually meet them.

Nothing extraordinary ever happens in my ordinary life. Routine routine routine. Same people same events ever. So I do RC for the love of it. But I'll try and question my reality more. And I'll try MILD as well.

Why do you think some ppl have two or three LD in one night? Is it a gift or we'll all get there sooner or later?

You should get there in some amount of time. This usually happens regularly only to the people that have been practicing for a while, but for most it is just luck when you have more than one. You could also get multiple dreams by repeatedly DEILDing. I've done up to four times!

Also, it could be a gift for natural LDers once they get serious about it.

      Good luck!

I have the same problem too. My dream sign is College Friends, they come in my dreams quite often. But I don't see them in my waking life at all. We are in different countries. I practice RC all day. I do like 20-30 RCs a day. I do RC when someone stops at my desk, when I open a door, when I hear some noise and so on. And, when I go to bed, I do the mantra that my dream sign is so and so and I should do a RC when I see them. On top of all these efforts, I fail to do RC in my dreams. When I wake up and realize I saw my college friends in dream and I missed it, hurts a lot. But still I'm hoping one day it all will start working. Practicing WILD as well. I love DILD just because you don't lose any sleep. That's the big plus with DILD.

Don't give up. Continue your RC in walking life. You will be there.

If you want to increase your awareness in general, try meditation. As for trying to DILD, just do reality checks and live your life like it is a dream, that way, lucid dreaming will be on your mind. So basically, you want to make a habit that will trigger the thought in your head that says, "Is this a dream?"

That habit can be checking your hands, repeating a mantra such as "This is a dream" all day long, etc.

      good luck
