      Need beginner help

Hello guys, this is my first time here. I found out about Lucid dreaming at another forum about a week ago and have been trying to learn since then. I hope this is in the right section, since it says any general questions. Anyway, here goes:

Every night, before I go to bed. I focus hard and tell myself that I WILL remember my dreams. I also do a reality check every hour. I check to see if I have five fingers on my hand, and plug my nose while trying to breath. I ask myself if I'm dreaming. I also got myself a dream journal, right away when I started trying to learn.

My problem is pretty basic, but I have no idea how to solve it. The dreams don't come. I've never been good at remembering any dreams, and until I found out most people had 6-10 dreams a night, I thought I didn't dream at all. How do I make the dreams come? I think my problem may involve that I can't fall asleep while focusing, so my brain probably forgets its important as I fall asleep.

      How do I fix this?

      Welcome to DV!

And try doing a WBTB (Wake Back to Bed).

WBTB is waking up in the middle of the night and you may ask why you should do this?

      1. Because it wakes up the logic center in your brain so if you were in a dream you can more easily become aware that you are dreaming.
      2. Because when you wake up in the middle of the night, chances are you were just in a dream thus you should be able to recall that dream.
      3. On the weekends (If you like to sleep in.) try doing a WBTB closer to sunrise. (I have heard that sunlight can induce more dreams.)

Otherwise just keep on practicing and i'm sure you will get it. If you would like to try my method to induce a lucid dream feel free to. Link is in my sig

Thank you for the welcome =)

A WBTB does sound like a good idea.

How often would I have to do this though?

Would I have to do it every single night? Or would my body start to remember the dreams more? I ask because I don't know how I will wake myself every night without getting my parents angry. I also don't want it to affect my sleep, cause I don't want it to get in the way of school too much. But if it means going to bed earlier, I will.

I will definitely check out your tutorial! The ability to learn to control my dream is something I can't pass up. Even if it takes a long time to learn.

You don't have to do it every night only if you want to. Like you can do it on the weekends so it doesn't effect school. And here is a way to wake yourself up without upsetting your parents.

If you set an alarm for the same time every day you will start to notice yourself waking up before your alarm clock even goes off this is because your conscience doesn't like to be shocked awake. So set an alarm in the middle of the night to the time you want to wake up at and let the alarm wake you up for about 4 days (or more.) after that, you should notice yourself waking up before the alarm goes off. Now you can turn off the alarm and you can wake up naturally. Repeate every week.

That's just one way. Another way is if you have a cell phone, set it to viberate instead of playing a tune. Make sure the cell phone is on your bed too.

Also I forgot to mention. Every time you wake up, make sure you do a reality check because you may have a false awakening (FA)

A FA is when you think you are awake but you are actualy dreaming. This can occour right after you have had a LD (lucid dream) or when you wake up in the middle of the night.

That is basically what my tutorial is. (link in my signature) Inducing a FA.

      Ah ok, thank you ifatal.

The link in your signature isn't working for me though, and just brings me to the top of the page.
