Recurring nightmare (lucid for the first time)

      Hey everyone.

Last night I had what was probably the most interesting LD I've ever had. Ever since I was really little (8 or 9 I think) I have been having this recurring nightmare of a Minotaur (hence the avatar). The dream begins with me crouched down in a forest where almost all the trees are dead or dying. It's snowing lightly and its the middle of the night but there is a full bright moon, so it's dark but I can still see. I'm crouched down feeling at the ground/snow. After a few seconds I look up and see a Minotaur, he has very dark brown hair, I would say black but I can make out a hint of brown when the moonlight reflects on the frame of his shoulder. I can see larg breaths coming from his nose in the freezing air. We always stare at each other for a few seconds, then he growls under his breath, I become afraid and take a small step back. When he sees me step he roars LOUD... it's go time... I turn and book it. Sometimes I run for a few seconds and other times it feels like hours, but every time I wake up while running.

I haven't had this dream for almost a year, but before that I would have it about 2 or 3 times a month. Every time I've had this nightmare it was very vivid but not lucid at all, but last night for the first time ever I had this nightmare while 100% lucid. I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar story or if anyone has an opinion on what it might mean (if anything)

      DREAM:

      ME
      MINOTAUR

I'm staring at the ground and I reach to grab a hanful of dirt. When I feel the cold ground falling through my fingers I realize I'm dreaming and that I've been here before, at that point I'm completely lucid. I look up and see the Minotaur. We stare at each other for a few moments like normal, then he growls, but I don't step back this time.

Who are you? Why do you always chase me?
Why are you asking? You never say anything. Wait... you're in control. Why are you in control?!
What do you mean? I've been working on getting control JUST so I can talk to things like you and figure out what the hell you're thinking. Just tell me what the hell you want?!

Then he roars again but it seems louder than normal. He starts to run towards me so I turn and run and he begins to chase. As I'm running he yells

If you come here again there wont be any talking.

Then I woke up. Obviously any opinions would be welcome

Should of killed the bastard, not ran. Usually reacurring nightmares means your subconscious is trying to tell you something. Interesting things he said though.

Hmm... sometimes it just takes trust in yourself to take control in an LD, expecially when you are faced with some type of challenge. You just have to believe in something that will either kill him, or make him go away. Sometimes if i want something to go away I close my eyes for a second, and know that it will be gone when i open my eyes. I say "know" because saying "think" has some doubt, which could grow and cause it to be ineffective. "Know" has no doubt, and will always work if you truly believe (wow... that sounds kind of corny, but it works!) It's all about believeing in yourself and being truly aware, which will come easier with practice.

P.S... be careful when opening/closing your eyes. When i was little, about 8 or so as well, I would close my eyes tightly then open them very quickly to wake myself up from this recurring nightmare i had, which are now gone

Interpretation? Something about minotaurs scared the crap out of you when you were a kid and the nightmare has become repetitive.

Nightmares are dependent on you staying focused on them. Hence, if one's in an LD that starts to shift into a nightmare, all you have to do is ignore the nightmare element. However, yours has a set pattern so you can't really ignore it. Here's my suggestion on how to deal with this:
      1. When you become lucid in the nightmare, reach into your pocket and take out a tic-tac. This is always how I give myself supernatural powers. Eat the tic tac for whatever you want, you have to "know" it's going to give you this power. In this hypothetical scenario I am giving myself the ability to explode miscreant minotaurs.
      2. Put on sunglasses. Because when you're killing half man-half bull creatures, you better look classy.
      3. When the creature appears, say a slick one-liner, preferably a Die-Hard quote and snap your fingers, destroying said minotaur. Alternatively, give yourself a sword or something. However, I find weapons are often unreliable in dreams.

DAMNIT THAT'S AWESOME, man. Even though it was a nightmare, it still sounds pretty cool.

He said you were in control, that is why he chased you. So he could get you to forget it was your dream and you would run away. If you stood your ground and yelled back he probably would of stopped in his tracks and maybe even talk things over with you.
