      The ninety minute dreaming thingy...

I heard of a method to improve dream recall, and the ability to go lucid that involved setting your alarm clock to wake you at ninety minute intervals, as this is when you are most likely to be in a period of REM sleep, and coming out of a dream, therefore making them easier to remember, and increasing your chances of getting back into the dream.
I have a problem: I tried this experiment last night, woke myself up after the first 90 minutes, and couldn't remember anything i'd dreamt. so i set the clock again, to go off in a further 90 minutes. However, this time when it went off, i just reached over, shut it off and went back to sleep!! And still no dreams!
When i woke at 8am this morning, i knew i'd been dreaming, but my recall was hazier than ever.
Does anyone have any tips on how to discipline yourself to do this, and not allow your sleepy brain to take over?
I'm sure this could work for me, i'm looking to try the WBTB theory, so that i can close my eyes, and jump straight into a lucid dream, rather than wait to be in a dream and realise it.

      Thanks in advance!

When you wake up only 90 minutes after going to sleep, you'll find that you're extremely tired and probably irritated, so you're unlikely to remember dreams. Waking up every 90 minutes will mean that you'll be even more tired, especially when it actually comes to getting up. Also, waking up lots of time sin the night isn't good for you, it might be better to try just waking up once, around 270 or 360 hours into sleep.

What does your last part mean? someone else also suggested waking yourself up after five or six hours, rather than ninety minutes.
and yes, when my alarm went off and i'd only been in bed an hour and a half, i was pretty cross, and confused!

When i have to wake up using an Alarm Clock I never remember my dreams, the sudden "JUMP" from sleeping to waking consciousness really messes up my dream recall (its like using a hammer on your head to wake up- lol).

I agree with what Raylin says, allow yourself to cycle through the first 2 or 3 REM periods before waking yourself up, then trying to focus your mind on WILD.

okay, i'm going to try it tonight, set my alarm for five hours after i've gone to bed, wake myself up, and see what happens...
if i can't go lucid, at least i will be able to recall something!! Hopefully!
