I don't think this thread belongs in Research. I would have put it in General Dream Discussion.
The answer is yes; according to Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, nightmares can be stopped by lucid dreaming. He appears to suggest using the DILD technique during the nightmare. Becoming lucid will allow the person to be able to face the frightening part of the nightmare without fear of pain, death, etc. He suggests engaging the monster or whatever in reasonable discourse, asking questions like, "Why are you chasing, attacking, raping, nipple twisting bludgeoning, and/or stabbing me?" or, "What do you represent?"

      Hope this helps.

This thread should get moved but yes nightmares can be stopped. Rather than engaging what is scaring her, she can choose to wake up or teleport. She can spin in her dream or just close her eyes and decide to wake up. The upside of this is she can enjoy her dreams where her body is perfectly healthy. And you should also stick around on this forum for your own purposes. Lucid dreaming is tons of fun.

Send my best wishes to your friend and tell her good luck. If she has any questions you can always PM me.

Yea lucid dreaming can definatly help. I also watched some show that some therapist use some technique that allows people to choose what they want to dream at night so that they don't have nighmares anymore and it has helped a lot of people. My friends brother just reciently got out of aftghanistan and has some ptsd and nightmares is something he suffers from. But I've brought up lucid dreaming to help him out, but just me mentioning his nightmares makes him mad so he wouldn't be interested in lucid dreaming.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

You'd need to PM a mod probably.
