Could you change yourself through lucid dreaming?

For those who struggle with self-esteem, can lucid dreaming help to improve one's own self-esteem?

Can your subconsious manifest into a dream character? And can you "counsel" your DC?

Are you able to change your thinking and attitude through lucid dreaming?

E.g stuff like telling yourself not to be lazy, to improve self esteem, to end a trait like selfishness, to encourage an emotion like happyness...

This is my own personal opinion, but I think it wouldn't work if you knew you were orchestrating the thoughts. I think the movie Inception did a good job explaining that actually. You can't plant your own seed to change your behavior or thoughts about yourself, because your subconscious knows that it was your idea to begin with. Lucid Dreaming could help with things such as public speaking, but as far as selfishness or self esteem goes... Perhaps being Lucid will only hold you back from changing those kinds of aspects. Again, just my opinion.

Lucid dreaming definitely changes you, but not in the ways you're describing. If you have a low self-esteem, you need to deal with that in the real world. Try to figure out the people in your life who are keeping you down, and remove them. And selfishness? Please. That's obviously something someone else has called you in order to manipulate you. You need to start listening to your own judgments, and stop listening to those people who are trying to hurt you.

I like what cmind had to say but I also think you can use your dreams to discover your value, the reason why you are more special than you realize. Look up dream guides as well.
Know thy self and you'll realize a lot of things.

I believe dreams are a mental release. In a spiritual sense, you are transported to another world, where anything is possible. To explore your mind in such ways, you could definitely discover who you are. Through that, you will become a changed person. I sounded like a straight-up hippy there, but seriously. That's how I look at it.
Do not try and bend the spoon--that's impossible. Instead only try and realize the truth...there is no spoon. Then you will see that it is not the spoon that bends

      it is only yourself

Nice post... Although what if you don't like the person you find? Just a thought...

Then you can do some exploring and find what needs to be changed.

I think it is possible that you could use lucid dreaming to change your expectations of real world events... although I think the amount of time it would take retraining your expectations of the real world could just as easy be used to retrain your thinking in the real world itself lol...

In EWOLD Dr. Laberge talks about people that used lucid dreaming to over come certain fears such as performing in public, so it can help with certain things.

I believe it can change you. I just think it doesn't change you, alot.
As far as self-esteem, I don't really think it works. Maybe, confidence. In lucid dreams, usually you're what you want to be, so if you continue to want to be that certian thing, you'll always wake up to the reality. If you're you in your LD's, then maybe you could discover good parts of your imagination, and hidden talents.

Yes. You can use dreams to change the way you think about things, and thusly the way you look at yourself and the world around you.

I think it can help for stuff like public speaking and some anxiety problems, but I don't know if it can help change your personality.
Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Well i think its depending on how often you LD and how much you attempt to use it for altering different aspects of your waking life expectations... If you ld once a month, and every time you do, you just fly.. how is that gonna help anyone? lol.. but if you ld 3 times each night and constantly work on scenarios you are afraid of in real life, it could make a difference..
