Thread: Can dreams be a peek into the future

Lately I 've been seein dreams which aren't related to my past but may be an interpretation of future events. I wanna know to what extent can I see them as things happenin in future?

IMO, simply no.
Reason - why should it be, what's the logic behind it.
I havent seen any signs of it.
Sure there are people who experienced things from their dreams happening in real life, but since dreaming is related (tie back) to something you experience everyday,it's most likely normal for it to happen.
If you dream about having a new member to a soccer game, and you play soccer in your school, it doesn't count as fortune telling is it.
Unless that person is exactly like in your dream then maybe xD.

This happen to me once only though. I had a dream where i was showing off a sword in a game with my enchantment to my friends, and days later i ended up recreating that moment unintentionally (i showed him the same sword with some enchantment) at the same location in the game!.
But even though that happen, i was nonchalant about it, dont know why because it should be weird and surprising moment.

Thanks a lot for clarifyin.. Had it been a happy moment(in the dream), perhaps i wouldn't even bother.. but it was a really sad one(untimely death of a loved one) and seemed so real..like i remember the minute details, somethin which makes me worry all the more.. But i guess i'll go with you and hope it's got nothin to do with the future..once again, thanks a ton!

well really there is no logic in dreams and to this day it cant be properly explained why you have dreams, why you travel back in time, see people and places you never seen before. unless if your a famouse scientist you cant really say NO with curtainty. there are alot of things in our world that are happening which are unexplained with no logic behind it

I believe everything you see in dreams you have seen before.

I don't necessarily believe that dreams follow the same linear timeline as waking life. Perhaps this can account for some of the synchronicity of dreams "predicting" the future. I don't think there's much evidence behind this theory, however, so you can probably just call it a coincidence and be done with it.

There is some logic in dreams, it's just not as rigid as it is in real life since everything is a pure creation of your mind. What kinds of things happen in life that have no logic behind them?

It may not be proper, I'm fond of improper things, but I have an explanation as to why you have dreams. We dream because we are constantly thinking or have some kind of mental activity on. When you sleep you are shut off from your senses and because of this the images you see when thinking something are much more vivid, almost real. You see certain memories because they have some significance to you. This is my curtified non-scientific opinion.

I've read that some "enlightened" people who are able to "stop"(not exactly what they are doing if I understand it but I don't feel like explaining it since I don't completely understand it) don't dream. This isn't even what the guy said, but this is what I think he meant(the book is The flight of the Eagle by J Krishnamurti. I highly recommend it).

We are always thinking about the past and the future and all sorts of stuff, this creates our dreams. If you are really in tune with your life maybe like people are saying your subconscious can drop hints about what might happen in the future, but I would think you could only see things that you are already vaguely aware of.

A family friend of mine once had a dream that her grandmother passed away. In reality her grandmother had been experiencing some health problems. I believe that the dream was a subconscious interpretation of her worry for her grandmother's health.
I am very open minded. Some people say that they experience visions of the future. My friend was worried by the dream and decided to go visit her grandmother. One week later her grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep. This was the one and only "premonition" that this girl ever had. I think that her subconscious was making her aware of her existing worries and thanks to this dream she got the chance to see her grandmother one last time.

i have been in building and cities which i have never seen before not even in photos or TV.

i agree with everything your saying about dreaming but my personal expriences say there are ways to access future.

although i do believe you have to have some initial knowledge of somehting, so it is something that is in your mind so you can dream about it.

for example my friend had an arguement at work with her boss, and i dreamt she lost her job and even told her in the morning and end of that day she called me to say she lost her job.

for past couple of weeks iv been trying to get future lotto tickets inmy dream, and usually id get 4-5 numbers 1 of them would be right every time, after paying more attention and concentrating more i have been getting 2 out of 6 numbers everytime. Mind you if you randomly play 10 games in each game choose 6 numbers chances are you woint get any of the numbers that come up. So last 2-3 attempts iv been getting 2 numbers right with the 3rd number bieng only 1 digit off. last week i got (5,6,8) and the numbers actually came up were (5,7,8).

another thing is as well im a big beliver in law of attraction/viberation , which for those who dont know means you will attract what you give your attention to with positive emotion and the feeling of it already happening now, which can explain this. as if you dream of something and you wake up getting excited of how real it felt and you constantly think about it and it actually happens.

Maybe your dream mashes up pieces of things you have seen. Like you have seen that kind of window. That color wall. that type of floor.

well of course,of cource everything makes since, but you have to figure it out before it does make since until you do figure it out it doesnt make since. So in regards to this discussion my point was as dreams havnt been fully undrestood to the full extent no one can say with curtainty if something is possible or not, eventhou it may not make logical sense to us. nothing makes logical since untilsomeone discovers somehting new and provides proof and evidence.

but its all very interesting, hopefully i can make a breakthrough and become fully lucid and maintain it for much longer periods only then you can experiment and learn more

Carl Jung states in his theory of the human subconscious, that it holds hints about the future and past. He explains it kinda this way:
There is a part of the suconscious which is inheritable, it is something like the merging memory of all humans who have lived before you. As years gone by, your subconscious has filtered events which happened to all your Anchestors in some way. And since dreams are connected to the subconscious, it would technically be possible to dream about the future.

That sounds crazy right now, so I'll give an example.
The majority of your anchestors would have experienced their parents dying. So I guess when you are at a certain age, your subconscious might suggest you that your parents will die in the near future. (Not that it really is going to happen, it simply states that it normally happens at this age.)

Of course it's nothing like future telling, it's only patterns of possible events which are suggested.

Another way to have future related dreams would be, that your subconscious mind has realized something before you consciously noticed it, and tries to tell you about it in your dream. Let's say you dream about coming too late to school. The exact day you really come to late, but this could've happened because the day before you subconsciously noticed a paper which stated that the train you usually ride with won't be availiable tomorrow.

I've dreamed things that ended up happening years later. I once dreamed that my sister-in-law was getting remarried in some building on a beach, right near the water's edge (like an ocean, but not). In the dream I was five months pregnant (in the dream there was conversation about how far along I was) and unable to attend the actual ceremony because my belly was enormous and none of my clothes fit. I mentioned the wedding part of the dream to her at the time (she was only just divorced, so her first response was to say "oh no!") but not the details. This was at least a year before I started trying to get pregnant. Eventually my SIL did meet a guy and they suddenly decided to get married the next month on a particular date (repeating digits in the month, day, and year) in a place I'd never been to or even seen pictures of before, but in the pictures they sent me it was exactly how I'd seen it in my dream, right down to the boardwalk sort of thing that were featured in some of the pictures. At the time they got married I was exactly five months pregnant and big as a whale already, though clothing wasn't the reason we couldn't attend the wedding.

It's not evidence, just an anecdote, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I can only speak from my experiences, and I don't mind if folks think I'm off my rocker based on their own experiences. I've dreamed other things, good, bad, and horrific, that seemed to echo in my head in a way that was similar to what happened with the above dream, but those things haven't come to pass that I know of. It would be nice if some of the good things still happen, but either way, it makes for some fun dream analysis.

FWIW, I think the worse the dream, the more it sticks in the mind, the more significant it might appear to be. Not that dreams of people dying might not ever coincide with those people actually dying, but my own track record people-dying dreams doesn't show any correlation with reality.

You may want to watch this guys unfortunate dream prediction, where he predicted his own death about one year before it happened in a very similar manner. This is the news article detailing his death.

Are you "magically" seeing the future if it comes to pass? No

Is your brain capable of filtering content and than presenting you with a probably outcome? Yes, this is how your brain works, including presenting it to you in a dream rather than conscious thought.

We could get weird and talk about quantum physics and how a 4 dimensional geometric plane appears as "time" to us 3D beings, possibly allowing us to conjecture that it is not impossible to physically sense future events.... but that kind of talk belongs in a different forum.

i think if so many people including my self have had future scenarios in dream which came true means that no one can say its impossible, like i said there many things about it all which dont make since, meaning we dont yet have enough undrestanding of it, just because we dont undrestand something or it doesnt make since doesnt always mean its false.

Maybe one of humans features are dreams which is a very useful tool which we just need to learn how to use, maybe you might be a person that spends enough time exploring, experimenting, and you come up with a consistant pattern and you make some discoveries, which someone els then comes and learns from your exprience and takes it further and then they make a break through.

if you believe in the Law of viberation/Attraction this all makes perfect since. your dreams can determine how good or bad you feel the next day which could effect rest of your day. it can make you gain or loose confidence, or motivate or demotivate you depending on what happens in your dream
