Smile Unpleasant startings when entering LDs

Hi. I have been reading this forum and found it very interesting and could identify with many of the experiences shared. For me, if I have slept earlier in the day, I will lucid dream when it comes to sleeping again at night. While I generally enjoy LDs, I always hate the starting part because ghostly spirits are always encountered (it is like as if I intruded/entered their sphere/dimension) and I have to ignore them for a while before they go away. I will then continue in my LD. At the point of entering LDs, I would also very often encounter an uncomfortable white glaring light and deafening loud sounds (as if my senses, especially that of hearing, are suddenly over-amplified). Anyone has similar experiences like this? I hope to be able to cut off the uncomfortable entry experiences and go straight into total control mode while in my LDs. I will be grateful for any advice. Thanks!

What type of technique were you using? These kinds of sounds and noises are probably experienced before you actually enter the dream (since you said you hear them at the beginning of the dream), and is probably hypnogagic hallucinations. Big term, but its basically referring to the period where you are drifting between light sleep and being awake. At this time it's common to see light bloches on your eyelids, feel tingling and or a heavy sensation. Some people have (generally horrifying) hallucinations and can hear noises as loud as screeching metal, but this is more related with sleep paralysis. Whether you are a Christian, or believe that these spirits are demonic, it's been proven that calling on gods name has helped people solve this problem. Give it a shot and good luck

Thanks for the info. I will look up the term hypnogagic hallucinations you mentioned (and yes, the loud sounds heard were indeed like screeching metal that came very near to my ears). Not sure if it is considered a technique at all for me to LD - I will LD when the hours between day nap/sleep and actual night sleep are too short apart. Can say is straight into LD while lying on the bed waiting for sleep to come. Over the years, I have made sure I put in as many waking hours as possible in-between sleeps so as to avoid LD if I don't want to LD (because of the unpleasant entry, not the ability to LD itself). Some of my LDs have been quite interesting, including trying to engage dream characters in hard questions I pre-planned to ask. Their answers could be interesting. Just to share an example : I resolved to ask dream characters about the theological idea of a Rapture and see what they would say. This was what happened in the LD : Most of the dream characters did not want to talk about the subject. One of them shouted angrily at me. I then tried doing it survey style. Almost all of them indicated (as in the raising of hands to indicate) that there is no such thing as Rapture. One of them added that there is a circular-reasoning behind the idea of a Rapture. (Disclaimer : I am not advocating or denying any Rapture theology in this post).

Talking to dream characters is pretty interesting, some people have even been convinced that they aren't dreaming by the people in there dreams. On I side note, I'm a Christian, and I DO believe the rapture will happen also, if you are realizing you are in a dream while sleeping to gain lucidity, this is called a sleep induced lucid dream (DILD)
