I won't give up this time.

Alright dreamviews.. I am back for a third time. This time I am determined to have a lucid dream. First time I was here I majorly lacked the commitment to actually keep up with dream journals and whatnot. But I still made an effort for probably 4 months. Second time, I got a bit more into it, still didn't have one after a month or two.

I haven't remembered a dream in so long. I have been slowly quitting smoking pot, unless its on a weekend now. So maybe I will be able to remember dreams, or maybe its my lack of sleep..

How can I start off a night to remember dreams? I usually have had horrible recall, even before I smoked.

I somewhat have confidence in myself.

I honestly tried to read your post but your avatar is so trippy that I ended up spending five minutes staring at it and I don't really know much about what you said besides the title.

      Agreed.
After a few minutes I found myself watching it with random thoughts in my mind. Good stuff to get unfocused X)

I'm struggling with recall too, can't give much of advice, but good luck anyway

Your avatar -I thought I was the only one who..nvm-
Erm..recall about it 1st the moment you regained conscious (wake up)?
      Goals:
      1. Attacking my enemies instead of running away from them~ Ultimately taking control of my dream situation.
      2. Remember that I can always summon a shield around me to protect myself in dreams. No need to fear!

First, to help you achieve lucidity try different methods. Make sure you read up as much as you can before you try a new method for the best possible results.

For dream recall, try setting your alarm to wake you up before you'd usually wake up. This this take you out of your dream leaving it fresh in your mind. After you do this, just go back to sleep like you normally would. Also, valerian root as a sleep aid also has the side effect of vivid dreams and dream recall. Check out the "lucid aids" section under the attaining lucidity section within the form.
      Lucid Goals

      Short term
convince a dc they're in a dream, get high, go swimming

      Long Term
have a deild, continue a relationship, stop time

I'm big on thinking its about attitude and what you think you can accomplish. That's what has always helped me. At the same time, I wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't work out. If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't there are plenty of other times I'm going to try! Of course, I would suggest trying different techniques to see if you can get better results.

Definitely try to keep a dream journal and try to be as consistent as possible. If you have the time, write anything you can if you don't have any recall. Feelings, emotions, colors, sounds, tastes, smells, whatever! So long as you try to recall something from the night that felt like it was in your dream. If you can't remember anything, that's okay as well! The fact that you're trying sets you up to start getting better recall as you progress.

Lastly, have FUN with it (this was a big one for me)! If you find yourself getting stressed because you're not getting any results, I feel that is a bad approach as it causes unnecessary negativity. Just enjoy the experience of learning this new concept and getting better at it. As a personal example, it took me weeks if not months to get it at first because I felt like I was putting so much effort and getting nothing out of it. But after giving up and coming back again, I took a new approach- enjoy whatever new thing I experience. Before I knew it, my dreams became more vivid and I recalled more of them! One night I was surprised to have found that I remembered 4 or 5 dreams!

Then I got distracted by other things in life again and haven't tried in months hahaha! But I'm gonna go for it again. My recall is generally one dream a night now, but I'm gonna go for as much lucidity as possible for as long as possible.

      Good luck on your progress!

I am very familiar with a lot of the methods, but I really think I won't be able to have a lucid dream through the techniques where you have to concentrate or sit still for long periods of time. I have a huge lack of focus and ability to keep my mind on a subject. And because of that I never have been able to have the skills to benefit from meditating very much. I will try to have fun with it, I love looking back at my dreams. I have the strangest dreams that make me laugh more than anything else. I just never remember them!!!

It seems that I still have sleep issues too... So that doesn't give me much help. I have tried for the past few nights to go to bed at 10-11 then wake up at 630. But I can't sleep that early! My mind doesn't get tired that early. The only way I can fall asleep early is by smoking, which I am pretty sure doesn't help with recall.

I did set an alarm on my phone that says "Remember any dreams?" its a touch screen one, so you have to look

My first suggestion would be to make sure you are eating well or take a daily mutli-vitamin. I've also found B-complex and lecithin supplements effect my dreams positively, possibly due to choline. My dream recall has always been good, but if I take the vitamins I can recall more of each dream, making them feel longer. Maybe they'd help you, plus it's good for your cholesterol!

Well what do you know.. I see a bottle of vitamin B complex on my shelf in my room haha. I was taking it a few months back on and off. I will start again. Right now!

On another note, does amount of sleep dramaticly change any body elses recall? The only way I can remember dreams now a days is if I sleep 9+ hours usually with me waking up once. Once I get back into the pattern of remembering dreams hopefull it will get better.

I have in fact noticed a correlation in time asleep and recall. It's possible tho that it may just be the longer you are asleep the more sleep cycles you go through offering more chances to dream, thus more chances to remember a dream.

By contrast to much sleep debt can cause me to have a weakened recall.

Also an interesting thing, the dreams I recall that take place earlier in the night, most likely coinciding with the REM periods after stage 3 deep sleep, tend to be a lot more unbelievable. Crazier, weirder, more messed up. Where as the dreams I have when I'm closer to waking up tend to be more realistic.

Anyone else have the same experience?

I can't quite remember... hahaha I was looking for an avatar and I found this in a folder. Im pretty sure I did not make it

Hmm, well I often never remember dreams unless they are ones I wake up from usually. But thats when I have mediocre recall, like right now.

Tonight I will take 2 valerian root capsules at 8 pm and plan on sleeping at 9-10.

haha MasuhPota so many people seem to love this avatar.. i've gotten 2 private messages about it haha.

I still haven't had a dream to write down in my dream journal. I just can't seem to get over 7 hours of sleep. When I'm not smoking its so hard to sleep.
what can I do to wear myself out before bed so i can just fall asleep quickly?

First of all love the avatar, i gots to get myself one of those About the dream recall, i myself remember anything from 4-6 dreams everyday. I have also noticed that there is direct correlation with the amount of sleep and the ability to recall your dreams. i sleep around 6-8 hrs daily, and the times when i get below 6hrs, i can only recall 1 or 2 dreams. So definitely more sleep is required to get a better recall. Also u should set your alarm to go off at random times in the night (obviously dont do this if u have to wake up early the next day lol). Hopefully you'll wake up in a middle of a dream and will be able to recall them. Even if its a couple of words i suggest u right them down in your journal. I find after writing down a couple of words, those words becomes sentences which become paragraphs and slowly i remember the dream.

And i too suffer from sleep problems and would also like to know if anyone out there can help

      Avatar Haha, love it.
Anyway, keep up with the dream journal, use affirmations (+during RC's), lay in bed with eyes closed trying to remember, keep a consistent sleeping schedule. You could also try waking yourself up with an alarm clock during the night. It's not fun but doing it repeatedly for a couple days will help peak your mind in the following days without an alarm. Write down anything you remember. Also, if you're an insomniac like me, staying up all night and sleeping all day, wake up as soon as you can, like 5 or 6am, which helps tire you by 8-10pm. Or maybe you need to exercise more during the day. That's all I have for now. Sorry if it's unhelpful, I hope your recall increases!
