Reality check passed in a lucid dream.. What the?!

The other night i realised i was lucid, and in the past few months i have been doing the finger-through the hand reality check upwards of 10 times a day..

I thought "yeehaw! this will be my chance to see the finger go through the hand!"

I tried it, and the finger didnt go through :O And then shortly there after i woke up because i didnt know what was going on.

Any ideas as to what happened?

Ah, reality checks will fail sometimes. It would be ideal to have several different RCs that you use. I, personally, have had the finger through the palm fail for me before as well. Also, be sure to perform each RC multiple times. Sometimes they will fail once and then work the second time. My personal favorite RC is the nose pinch. It has yet to fail me.

Yeah I was going to recommend the nose pinch as well, but I remember someone saying it failed them. I guess the person stopped breathing in real life as he nose plugged because of a mental block or something. But yeah, try multiple ones.

Ah okay cool im not going crazy :-) I was so looking forward to it then bam.. it failed i was so confused.. haha

I'll try the pinching the nose method from now on and see how it goes :-)

RC's can definitely fail... I used to do the 'counting fingers' RC, but when I did it in my dream it was like 'Oh I have 9 fingers on one hand!... That's absolutely normal, I'm awake'. So... Yeah it can Fail.

I find some RCs work and others don't so its best to try several. Last night during a lucid i tried the finger through hand and it failed but then i tried the pinching my nose one and it worked. Also the number of fingers one is tricky. Ive looked at my hand to see that i had an extra finger on each hand but if i look away and then look back i have no extra fingers. I find the nose plugging one works the best.

I've never done a RC when awake, but I tried some when lucid just for fun. And well, it seems like in my dreams I always have five fingers per hand, can't push my finger through my hand or anything else, can't walk through walls... I think it's to do with what you expect to happen. I obviously just expect to have ten fingers and not to be able to walk through walls.

My way of getting lucid is rather by dream signs ("I can fly? This is a dream, obviously") and by keeping a dream diary.
