A common occurrence theme that some people seem to have in dreams is a notion of a "Dream Guide." I have never met my DG, but a lot of people on the forums have.

From the Dream Guide definition page:
"1. A dream character who helps you and knows more about your dream than the average dream character; some believe that it is a manifestation of your subconscious."
It looks like some people do consider this to be a manifestation of their "inner self" as you call it.

Not to be confused with the forum members known as Dream Guides. Those guys are here to help you with your dreaming outside of your dream.

I don't see a reason to believe that such a thing as an "inner self" as you describe it exists.

I voiced my intent to talk to my subconsciousness in my dreams twice. First time a large dude showed up and violently pushed me away, causing WTF reaction and waking me up. A second time the sky and clouds turned shades of golden (very beautiful), a blue portal opened and a bluish huge man telepathically conveyed me something along the lines of "you shouldnt do this" or "you are not ready". My memory of the message is very hazy.

Other times when I had this intention, I ended up with horrible dry spells for weeks.

Once I found myself in a dream in my room. My head was facing in the opposite direction - towards my back. I touched my twin in an effort to "fix" the head. This is when the twin rapidly aged and conveyed some important message that I don't remember.

I did not feel a connection, and my DCs lie a lot. I felt like the messages were significant.

If you think your Dream Guide is going to do that, it will.

Its interesting, I've read about many people being 'rejected' when asking questions to themselves on dreams, or attempting to meet their dreamguide.

~ Which is more important, a question or an answer?

I wouldn't consider it "impossible" to meet an embodied subconscious, after all your subconscious in waking life is the one doing most of the work.
Rejecting such a manifestation seems foolish, even if it's a regular dc in disguise.
I say this because i wouldn't doubt the possibility of "channeling" your subconscious into any dc via free will.
AKA, i wouldn't disregard an impersonating dc because you might very well be able to simply ask for them to be the "real deal".

For many years, I have made it a habbit of asking my friends if they have seen me walking around anywhere. So far, no luck. I believe that one must first meet their outer self before they really get personal.
