Lucid dreaming and out of body experiences..

I have been wondering about this for a while. Is it so that out of body experiences are actually lucid dreams, but for ones who doesn't know it, might interpetate it as an OBE? Another thing, many OBE's are told by people who has been operated, so they have been under narcoses. Could it be, that the activity in the brain during narcoses are way higher than what it would be in a dream, and therefore, many OBE's might seem as very very realistic because it feels more real than a normal lucid dream under such drugging?

I also think many people confuse out of body experiences and lucid dreams.
My understanding of an out of body experience, (please correct me if I am wrong) is that your body is asleep, and your spirit / mind / whatever you want to call it leaves your body. For example, you can fall asleep in school, and your spirit leaves your body, enabling you to move around class undetected. Then you can look off of other peoples' papers during a test or something. When wake up and copy the answers on your own paper. I honestly don't buy it, if that is, in fact, what an out of body experience is.
Also, if people say they had an OBE where they could change their surroundings and talk to people, or even move something, then I think it would have to be a lucid dream.

But anyways, I agree with you Vinje. I think a some people do mistake some of their lucid dreams for out of body experiences.

      That's right Lucky.

A Lucid Dream occurs in a dream world that isn't real. An Oobe supposedly occurs in the real world, in real time. They are distinctively different- at least as I understand it.

And I'm sure there are instances when projectors confuse one with the other- especially when they say they manipulated their surroundings as we do in LDs.

I've read that those that can project themselves out of their body- can actually plan to meet others projecting as well, at a certain place and time and are able to see each other and converse with each other while in this state. They go on to say- that while in this projected state, they can also see various people leaving their bodies while they sleep at night and project without having a clue in the morning as to what happened.

Those in a LD are confined to a dreamworld weaved in their own mind. Oh but it's a beautiful world indeed.

      Keep Dreaming......

Be careful, though, as you never know where you might actually be, & it is kind of dangerous to do it in an area where you may or may not be safe!
Last LD I remember in the school category was when I got out of my seat (yeah, it was a FA!) I just flew up towards an area that I could see the teacher better. Yet I listened to the teacher very well. When I realize that I was not really awake (in one of my Sci-fis[see the description in the attaining lucidity section], to be exact!), I went back to my seat & officially woke up. The teacher just looked at me, & said, "Well, if you are done sleeping, why don't you tell the class what I just taught." I tell him what he taught, & he said, "Hey! How'd you know that was what I was teaching if you were not responding?" I just told him, "I had a Sci-fi!" He asked, "What is a Sci-fi?" I explained it to him, & now he doesn't make me lecture in front of the class anymore. Just remember that was a LD!

Nesgirl. No offence but I get the feeling you are terrified of Out Of Bodies. Though I had a friend who experienced it, quite not realising what he had done. He found himself at the corner of his ceiling and said he met some very basic threatening Entities. I Guess that is good enough reason to be afraid though.
I'm Staring at you from behind. It's the Eyes on the back of your neck. Feel the Burn.

You are right about that!! Hahaha! Well, & also....I think that it was really funny to do that to my teacher......he's like, "Had a Sci-fi again?" when I tell him what he wrote on the board & taught, & he like thinks that I am in some sort of deep sleep or something....

Vinje, I have also wondered the same thing. I personally have never had an OBE, but have ready quite a bit about them.

My scientific training compells me to always look for the simplest and most elegantly simple explaination to things. That said, although I think OBEs could exist, I tend to think that the majority of 'OBEs' people experience are in reality lucid dreams.

Just my opinion though, others have differing views on the subject.

Yeah, in my opinion, an OBE happens during a NDE. If you see things in LDs that happen in reality, you are remote viewing.....

Well it can account for the fact that I tried to get up, go up to my mom, she ignores me, & then I go spy on the neighbors. That can only be accomplished in a LD. And listening to the teacher while flying above his head: LD!

Yes...But can you verify this was an actual event or just an LD.

Hahah! It was like I was in the classroom(me & the duplicate)! LDs are like that! I even saw that teacher write on the board, & I thought he was just so cool! Then I tell him what he wrote on the board. Definitely a RVing LD!

Uhh, okay! At least I am still able to play w/my friends in one of my little Sci-fis. I think that it is very funny to tease Cody w/his sash. He gets all panicked if I grab his sash, & start teasing him w/it!
