      Ask around!

I remember a thread about a week ago that was talking about how peoples family members and friends don't support lucid dreams or think they're weird. I totally disagreed with some people that were saying you should keep lucid dreaming a secret because it just causes problems. I wanted to test what they were saying with people that I knew here were my results.

Ask around! Share results, after reading this, post some reactions that friends or family have had on the topic of this thread good or bad, it's just interesting how people react. Maybe we can convince some people to be more open about it.

Note: The only people I am very close to in the list are my parents, others are just work friends and acquaintances. Unless noted, I'll add more as I remember them.

Mom: Didn't understand it at first until I related it to some night terrors she always has, and explained what sleep paralysis is. She now reads my dream journal on the site regularly. Took about a week for her to understand it.

Dad: Was very interested from the start, but again had a hard time understanding it. Note that neither of my parents were up to try it (When I close their door at night I still say "Have a lucid dream tonight!" )

Jake (Work): We were talking about hallucinogenics like shrooms, ACID, and DMT. Some aspects of ACID were coming close to some aspects of lucid dreams, and I felt like he wanted to describe it with some lucid terms. So I said oh so It's kinda like a lucid dream I've had one of those before. Then surprisingly he got all excited and was like wow I didn't know anyone practiced lucid dreaming except for me, then we got into an hour long discussion about it.

Chris (Work): Mentioned lucid dreaming at a party, he said he's heard of it and is very interested. That night I told him some info and he seemed excited about it. Also I talked to him at work for about 15 minutes about it and he said he had tried doing it since the party!

Nathan (Close Friend): Didn't really get the point of having a lucid, but was still interested in what the experiences was like. Oh, he was interested after I told him you can have lucid sex

Nicole (Close Friend): Once I joined this forum I told her about it, and she had an instant connection after I explained it because she's had OBE's before but didn't even know what they were. She also reads my dream journal sometimes. She tells me she isn't interested in having one though.

Well those are the highlights of my experiences, I've told almost everyone I know. No one has thought it was stupid, but a lot of them just don't understand. If they seem interested at all explain it to them in more detail or give them one of your experiences, it's nothing to be ashamed of. If they pick on you or make fun of you then they obviously aren't intelligent enough for you to be friends with them. So, I wanna hear some stories too especially funny ones and parent ones.

I talk about LDing a lot and enthusiastically, All of my roommates are use to me talking about it now, two have signed up on DV. One claims to have lucids often but she doesn't take advantage of them at all and doesn't seem to want to explore them. My father is aware of and enjoys lucid dreams but is not interested in gaining skill in it. My mother and sister were both just interested in lucid sex and what can come of that.....which is awkward to say....

lol I'm glad to hear positive experiences, the sister and mom thing made me laugh ;p And also it's pretty cool you have a family that actually has them so you don't have to explain in huge detail over weeks

My parents thing I'm insane for being interested. My friends think it's a weird hobby. Only one of my friends practice it too. Telling people has never worked out for me. The one person who does it I found out about from seeing her write in a dream journal.

I don't really talk about it that much, but one of my friends said he's been having LDs since he can remember. We actually tried to have a shared dream one time, but it didn't work

I've talked to about 5-7 of my friends about lucid dreaming and only got one interested in it. Some think it's weird, some don't believe that it's real, and some think it's too much work. But until you experience it. There's no way you'll stop having lucid dreaming adventures, even if your friends think it's odd or just don't believe in it.

Mother: So you're trying to achieve a natural high?

Grandma: -rambles about odd dreams she's had.

Older Brother: So you want to be like Goku or something?

Younger Brother: -something vague and shows lack of any interest.

Younger Sister: Didn't tell her because she acts like a bitch when I tell her anything.

Baby Sister: That sounds awesome! (She's now keeping a dream journal of her own).

Best Friend: How do you know those people aren't lying (basically he is very skeptical).

Other Friend: Wow, really? That's pretty cool (he's also practicing dream exercises).

Ya me and my parents are very open, they know I smoke pot drink and anything else. I think that's how a son/parent relationship should be. I don't mind her reading things that didn't actually happen

Caretaker thanks for posting a buncha responses, at least you got a few people interested. I'm seeing a trend here that mom's don't understand ;p

Joe (Boss): Thought it was kinda weird at first but I could tell he was interested he just didn't know where to start. He's a pretty smart person so of course he was interested in something he hasn't heard of.
I haven't really had the chance to tell anyone else lately but I'll post them as I get them.
