      Exclamation Triple Fail

In my first dream, I started "waking up" and for a second I knew I was dreaming, but continued to play out the dream like it started. Then I woke up from someone calling me in the middle of REM, so I tried the WBTB technique. After 45 min, I layed back down, and sleep paralysis started. I didn't go into full paralysis, so after 30 minutes of waiting for it to happen, I gave up, rolled over and went straight to sleep. In my new dream, I looked at my hands and they were all weird looking, with eyeballs and everything. This is the moment where I should have known I was dreaming, (Like I've been practicing for months), but continued into the dream anyway. I know the steps on how to lucid dream, but it's like my body refuses to let me do it, even when I'm aware that I'm dreaming. Did anyone else go through this, or any suggestions?

If you're aware you're dreaming try some RCs to confirm it for yourself beyond all doubt. If you are completely aware then that pretty much defines lucidity. The reason you have strange dreams and don't realize that they are dreams is that the logic portion of your brain shuts down when you are sleeping making rational though impossible. If you are making a rational decision by coming to the conclusion that you are dreaming then the logic part of your brain is a awake and by all definitions YOU ARE HAVING A LUCID DREAM. If you are only partially aware that you are dreaming than its a semi-lucid dream and that happens to everyone. Happy dreaming!

What Transient said is absolutely right - lucidity is simply knowing that you're dreaming. So it sounds like you might have achieved it twice briefly, which is a great start!

This is puzzling, because you say you were aware that you were dreaming, but that you weren't lucid, which really doesn't make sense. Maybe you weren't really 'aware' it was a dream, but still looked at your hands and they were all messed up? If that's what happened, then you're getting very close. It's very common for people to first start to dream about lucidity - and this shows that the things you're practicing and drilling into your head are getting though and starting to effect the content of your dreams.

Next stop - lucidity! And it should be very soon. Maybe tonight.

You are so close. Whatever you are doing is working. Our sleeping minds are stubborn. It takes some time to break through.

Thanks for the help, hopefully I'm close enough to have one soon. It's been months of practicing.
