      Having your mind fool you that you can't breath...

      I had a lucid nightmare and one of the scariest parts now in retrospect is that after one of the false awakenings I couldn't breath through my left nostril because I thought I was laying on my bed in real life in a way that blocked the air. But luckily the right one worked fine. But still, it would've been terrifying if I wouldn't have been able to breath at all.

      Has anything like this ever happened to any of you?
      It's the only time the nose plug reality check didn't work. (for me)

      In any of my non-lucids, I am incapable of breathing if I try the nose pinch RC, ever. Which is why I never use it.

      Possibly you actually couldn't breathe through your left nostril. When you lay on your side, after a while the lower nostril will get blocked. Apparently it's from gravity pulling the nasal passages downward, if I remember right. This is something I learned when I was looking into meditation techniques. Then when you roll onto the other side, after a while the top nostril will open again and the other one will become blocked. I'm not sure if it's something that always happens, or just sometimes, but it's very common anyway. Common enough that they felt they had to write about it in a book on meditation techniques.

      Hukif, I wonder if you might not suffer from occasional Sleep Apnea: Sleep apnea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

      .. And maybe when your breathing stops briefly it makes you dream that you're trying a nosepinch RC? It's common fr people who have episodes of sleep apnea to dream of plausible reasons why they can't breathe - like they're underwater or being strangled or something. Someone familiar with RCs might dream that he's pinching his nose shut?I don't know, just guessing.

      The nose-pinch failed for me one time
      Idk why though I suspect it was because I was sick that day
      I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now.

      @Darkmatters

      Oh I tried nose-pinch long before knowing what a RC was, don't think its apnea, because as soon as I become lucid can command myself to breath just fine.
      That and most of my non-lucids at the time were based off FA and normal stuff, so no being underwater, no being strangled, just that if I felt like trying it would fail like in reality; not much to think about considering most RCs fail for me though <.<

      Well, I still can't understand how can nose RC not work. I mean... if you can't breathe IRL, you wake up. If you can breathe IRL, but seem not to be able in dream then how is it even possible? You might not feel air going through nose or whatever, but you just can't run out of air since you actually are breathing.

      How is trying to hold breath anything like nose RC? And for the record, I have.

      Yeah, when I try nose-pinch during non-lucids, its like holding your breath + the sensation of hands touching the nose of course.
