I have never heard of using meditation to induce lucid dreams. Also as a side note, during meditation you should never try to control your thoughts. This gives them power. You simply let them pass, without judgement or focus. You remain focused on whatever it is you are meditating on, be it a mantra, your breathing, etc.
You could try this experiment. Find a dreamy scene from an artist you like. Print it out, on photo paper if you can afford it. Make sure it's about the size of a piece of paper, although if you have the wall space you could try this with something movie poster sized. It must be very detailed, it has to be a scene that draws you in, that does not have artifacts in it which distract you. Now go about your meditation while gazing into, not at the scene. You don't need to see the scene with your physical eyes for it to have the desired effect. so your gaze should be soft, relaxed, unfocused. With this you should be able to enter the scene as a dream, and you should be lucid. Robert Moss details this in one of his books, think it's, "Active Dreaming." I think it was Moss. The author details the process of focusing on scenes in Tarot cards in order to enter that place.
Another option here is to get and read Maxwell Maltz's, "Psycho-Cybernetics", learn how to make mental movies, and write a script for yourself that shows you becoming lucid in your dream.
Hope these ideas help -

P.S. On an unrelated note my grandad was in the Marine Corps. I saw a letter of his dated a year before or after Pearl Harbor (can't recall which), so it was likely he was there, but he never talked about it. While I don;t agree with any of the wars we are in now, I want to thank you for your efforts and let you know that you, and all your fellow soldiers, are appreciated.
