Unhappy How to overcome the fear ?

I had one successful WILD so far (with the help of this forum ) and i wanted to have more. I spent a lot of time overcoming the fear of SP and noises in my head before I finally made it. However after it I read a lot of stories about people whose LDs went wrong, who couldn't exit the dream and the scariest of them all: the Doppleganger. After that I didn't even think of having another one. Now I want to have one again, but I am too afraid of any of this happening to me. Is there a way to ensure these things won't happen to you ?

Just don't worry! You gotta have intent that the dream will be fine. If you go into scared and thinking all this weird stuff will happen, then it probably will. Just be positive and the outcome will be great!

Just like Erii said, don't worry too much or else bad things will happen. If something scary does happen to you though, you'll be okay. Trust me. I've had some pretty weird and scary stuff happen to me, but I don't let it bother me.

I also have to ask, what is a doppleganger?

I've been in your shoes until recently. All this reading about SP and Hypnagogic Hallucinations made me freaked to even go to sleep normally. Then one night, I woke up in the middle of SP and all I experienced was coloured swirls and shapes and the vibrations associated with SP. Nothing else. Next thing I know, I'm up and about, dreaming

It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. Now, last night, I did a WILD with full awareness and intention of going into SP, HH and then the dream. And all I noticed was this:
      1. Noise (like on the radio when it's off-tuned)
      2. Vibrations
My heart didn't even race anymore, I didn't freak out, I didn't panic.. it was almost enjoyable. This is my 3rd WILD.

So, from a fellow-scared-person: it takes some getting used to. Once you've experienced it a few times, you'll be fine with it. Also, your LDs will last longer, be more vivid and you'll have more and more awareness and control while in the dream.
      My progress:
1st WILD: just awareness that this was a dream, and very basic control (put my finger through a window's glass) + interaction with DCs. (not aware that they were DCs)
2nd WILD: awareness + flying. ..well, floating. But it counts. + interaction with DCs. (not aware that they were DCs)
3rd WILD: awareness + flying + interaction with DCs *aware* that they were DCs.

Just remember that nothing can hurt you, and the more you do it, the more you get use to it. Before you know it, I'm sure it won't even bother you anymore.

      Good Luck to you.

If it's the combination of the dark and unfamiliar feelings that freak you out, i'd suggest you get used to SP in evenings if you could (during naps) and even follow through with the WILD attempt. I got used to the feeling of SP by that. It also helps to know from HI and HH you're just THAT close to a lucid dream.
