Red face Post your Doh! moments here - near misses

Hey everyone I've just joined Dream-Views and am planning on begining regular practice tonight.
While I'm waiting for that breakthrough moment, I thought I'll share both the most annoying and enthralling WILD attempt I've to date:

I had landed my first succesful lucid dream two weeks ago but due to having to move houses just afterwards, I did'nt really get a chance to attempt another till we moved fully over. At the time, I had to share a room with my bro which didn't make things easier for me. I had inexplicitly woken up in the middle of the night and decided to take advantage and attempt a WILD. Next thing I know, I wake up sometime early in the morning which during the winter might as well be night. However something didn't quite feel right in the air. I had a strong suspicion that I was in a dream and decided to do a reality check. I pinched my nose and found I couldn't breathe. I still felt strange though and tried again. Same result. Then I tried to materialize a pineapple in my hands (don't ask lol). It failed. I still felt weird and contemplated running into my parents room waking them to see if they would react weirdly but at that point, I felt that I was being a bit daft. I decided that this must be real and went about the rest of my day normally. You can see where this is heading don't you? When I woke up in the morning, explictives strove to rush out my mouth.

So you ask, why did I find this enthralling? Because while I was questioning my reality in the false awakening, everything looked so vivid and real yet I immediatly felt a strange sense of suspicion. My own awareness was more reliable then any reality check. Many people (including me at the time) think that a reality check leads to you questioning reality but it ran the opposite way here. Thats why I consider ADA the ultimate tech for inducing LD's.
Have you had any near misses to lucidity and if so, what did you learn from them, if anything?

      Favorite miss

The time I recall as being my biggest miss was when I was describing lucid dreaming to a DC and how cool of an experience it is. Never dawned on me that I was dreaming.

Oh, that reminds me of another one. I had just pulled off a bank heist and had gotten away. I remember thinking that if I had got caught and sent to jail I could always LD there.

Lol sounds like the case of the absent minded professer to me! I think the likelyhood of this happening is hightened by how often do you talk to people about lds in real life (outside the web) but thats just a theory

Lol cool stories, i've had quite a few, the worst one would probably be when I believed I was in someone elses dream -__- trying to help some guy become lucid to fight of this other guy with a gun, me - "C'mon man your dreaming! you can do what you want! just tell him to go away and he will!"

Lol, I facepalmed so hard when I woke up.

My biggest fail was grabbing my nose and being able to breathe in a dream, but thinking I needed the controller to the xbox 360 to actually have a lucid...

I had a really big fail a couple nights ago.

My friend was struggling really hard to do something. I was just like "It's ok we are dreaming so you can make anything happen". I kept telling him that, but we wasn't listening. I never realized I was dreaming though.

      ?!? Why didn't I realize I was dreaming DX.

Two nights ago, I was dreaming and this guy and I was talking. He was fascinated at the fact that he could morph into anything in his dreams. He closed his eyes and I could tell that he was trying to morph into something, as if I was in a dream. Never at that point in time did the thought occur in my head that I may be dreaming. *facepalm*

I've had many almost lucids. Probably the most epic fail was when I jumped out of the car I was riding in, onto the back of another car that was speeding the highway(this made sense in context, like most dreams.) As I was struggling to get a good grip, I wondered if I was dreaming. Then a turn came up and the excitement of trying to keep from falling distracted me until I forgot.

I've had a couple of times where ive gone to RC, but had DCs distract me with the most silly and obscure things. Last time was when my sister brought me a plate of baby sweetcorn before i could look at my hands properly. Apparently this was more important to me than RCing haha

I really did do a facepalm after this one.. I had a false awakening and started writing down the dream that I had just had (and I suppose I was still in) in my dream journal. I was really set on getting the entry down so I could go back to bed but the words weren't coming out right at all. I suddenly realized I was in a dream. Annoyed that I couldn't write the dream in my journal (and afraid that I'd forget it) I woke myself up so that I could do it for real. The realization that I just gave up a lucid dream to write down a regular dream (it wasn't even that great) just made me lie there for a while.. I think the title of that entry was just 'fail.'

Well pretty much every time I have become lucid (only slightly), when I wake up I am discouraged for a few seconds thinking "darn it was just a dream..."

Ive been having a lot of dreams that my dream powers are real... I will move something with my mind and instead of realizing im dreaming i think its real and get really excited. And when i wake up i'm pissed off because its not real and because i was stupid enough to think it was and also because i wasted a lucid opportunity

The other night I did a WBTB and went to lie down and attempt to go into a WILD.

I laid down and went through sleep paralysis, and then afterwards, opened my eyes. I got up and looked around. Everything seemed normal. Decided to do this a second time. Laid down and went through sleep paralysis. Got up. Looked around. Realized that in the prior awakening, I didn't have a desk. In-fact, half my furniture had been missing and I paid it no mind. That's what I call a "near-miss".
