      New and hoping for tips!

      Hi!

Well, as the title suggests, I'm kinda new, not only to the forum, but to the whole lucid dreaming experience...I've always been interested in dreams, and I came upon the concept of lucid dreaming by chance really...At the time, the only technique I found was to do regular RCs, so that they become a habit and eventually overflow into my dreams...THEN I came across this goldmine of a forum and discovered that there is so much more to lucid dreaming! Thing is, I'm so excited that, truth be told, I'm not entirely sure where to start lol! Hoping to get some tips to push me in the right direction Thanks in advance!

If you haven't already, read the Beginner's Guide to Lucid Dreaming thread located in the Introduction Zone forum and the wiki which lists LD induction tutorials. The first step is to have an active dream journal. The most common technique to begin with is DILD. I suggest both DILD and MILD. DEILD is probably a better technique to start before WILD. You'll get your lucid dream, be patient! All the answers are already in the tutorials!

I think Evolventity explained wonderfully what you have to read first.

Thank you both for your advice! I have thankfully been keeping a dream journal for about a year and a half now Though I'm having trouble pinning down my dream sign - my dreams seem pretty ordinary to me

If there is any technique i advise its Deilding, its amazing. After two weeks of begining I started to try deilding, by the next week I started having ld's. If you have no sleeping problems you should definetily try it, its so fast and easy + no sleep loss

Oh I see...For the reality checks, did you do them every so often or only when it appeared something weird was happening :p ? How did you go about it?

What I did first is for a week everytime I walked through a door I would notice it. Afterwards i drew the letters RC on my hand. Then every time I walked through a door or looked at my hand i would perform a reality check. Everytime i was having a trail of thought or i was trying to remeber something I would remember to perform another RC. using these three stimulus - walking through a door, looking at hand and just thinking i was doing a RC every twenty minutes. Thats it.

I changed a bit what most of the guides say, instead of directly doing an rc everytime you walk through a door, you would think to yourself "Im walking through a door, Im aware of that" that way it was easier to truly ask myself if i was dreaming or not instead of just acting out of habit. I also find that it helps when im LDing, when i walk through a door i become more aware in my dream and regain my lucidity.
Id say for me the most important part was truly asking a answering the question "am i dreaming" that way it should naturally appear in your dreams ;D
