Language is entirely symbolism, man. Everything you've ever known is an 'agreed upon symbol'. You can't take anything you see in a dream at face value, because it is all language, it's all various shades of word, with you at the center of it all. Maybe instead of trying to teach your subconscious self, you should learn the language that you've forgotten how to speak?
Thanks for the replies angie and telethiese. Ok, so I know as you say that all of the dream is created by my subconsious, it's just that this character definately has something she wants to communicate with me. I'm not quite ready to dismiss this character as a daft rambler - I have a strong feeling in each dream that she's very wise and ancient and I really would love to know what she's trying to say.

You are right though, I should learn her language. In one of the dreams she built a room for me and in it were hundreds of objects, a bit like a museum, I commented on some of them and she seemed please that I understood them. Next time I have a lucid dream with her in I'll try and look more at the scenery and ask her about it.

I know I have a lot to learn about the theories behind all this, so thanks for being patient with me. I am just trying to feel my way.
