      Idea for new menthod??

I just read about the CAT technique and I understand how it works, but I thought up a different version of CAT and would love if some LDers out their would try it and post their results. Obviously I will be trying it too.
      The Method
So the CAT technique involves tricking your brain to become more aware during rem periods over days, but what about tricking it over an hour or two. What I have in mind is setting alarm to ring 4-7 hours after falling asleep. Performing a WBTB (with frequent reality checks) then setting an alarm to ring every 10 minutes for the next 40-60 minutes. Then after that cycle you set and alarm for 5 minutes then 10 then 5 etc. (you also need an alarm that you don't have to manually shut off) Wouldn't this have the same principle? Any thoughts or ideas to tinker with this method would be appreciated very much! Also if this method does work can anyone think of a name for it? Also, has anyone already thought of this technique?

I am not totally new here I've been lurking around here lol, but this is my first post I have practiced lucid dreaming for about 4 years now so I know the techniques and methods that work and doesn't work for me.

What you are describing reminds me a little bit about this:Youtube search - Timer Method Lucid dreaming (Don't trust the theory he talks about everything is not correct, just try the timer).
Tried to provide you a link but Dreamviews wont let me yet =/

Then you use an alarmclock that wakes you up in this pattern: 8 min, 4 min, 8 min, 12 min, 16 min, 20 min, 20, min
This makes the chemicals in your brain (cholinergic system and aminergic system) that makes you aware and critical during the day and the other one the cholinergic system that kicks in when we sleep makes us less aware and less critical which is why we don't realize when we are dreaming. But when we lucid dream these two are either in balance or more of the aminergic system which allows us to be more aware and critical enough to become lucid. By using this timer you'll attain this balance of the chemical systems.

The downside is that it's sometimes hard to fall back to sleep and not to mention this is not a very pleasant method, especially if your angry in the morning
I've used it and got lucid from it, although after some attempts I started to have trouble falling back to sleep.

I hope this helped and I wish you good luck

I do something like this occasionally. I wouldn't say it's too similar to CAT though, because CAT cuts out all non-REM sleep. You'll still have non-REM sleep when you wake up a few times. But you're right, it would be easier to maintain awareness. It's the advantage behind WBTB and DEILD as well. Except with DEILD, you use that awareness to WILD more quickly.

I stumbled across this myself when I tried to DEILD. I set my phone to go off every 20 minutes after I had slept for 5-6 hours. I never did properly DEILD, but I found that waking up periodically helped me become more aware in the dream. I found it difficult to find a volume setting that would wake me up, but wouldn't startle me awake. Or if I set the alarms to go off after 7 hours of sleep, I couldn't fall back asleep very easily.

      Iapetos:
I've seen that timer method, but applied to WILDs. I haven't read about anyone else but me use it just to wake up.
