I think a lot of new people came from the movie inception. I also seen more documentaries coming out of lucid dreaming, and people are probably talking a lot more about it. |

I don't know why, but this place seems much more active since I was here in 11'. Usually their were only a few people on at a time (2 or 3,) and now they're 10-15 users on at a time! I think lucid dreaming has also become more 'mainstream' aswell, and that's why they're more people hearing about controlling their own dreams on a regular basis. |

Goodnight and good luck. On and onwards, dreamers!

All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.
It's best to have failure happen early in life. It wakes up the Phoenix bird in you so you rise from the ashes.
And every few days there is some misinformed article on lucid dreaming on 9gag. |

....Its 'the internet age' ... people aren't afraid to seek info or talk to people about these things... |

Yes. The movie Inception, Facebook, and everything else on the internet has helped more people learned about lucid dreaming. I have seen a few lucid dreaming photos on Facebook from my friends, which is good, even though most of the things the photos say are incorrect. With more people learning about it, they will tell some of their friends. So yeah, it's gaining popularity. I don't think it will ever be totally mainstream though. |

I agree until it becomes as easy as turning on the tv people will never bother commiting themselves. In a way I think it's good that it doesn't become too mainstream, at least now its unique. |

On the internet it seems cool, but if I were to tell my friends IRL that I keep a dream journal... that would just seem weird to them, like I'm keeping a diary or something. And I agree with dutchraptor, people don't want to do something that is this hard, they want it to be easy. So I guess we all better master lucid dreaming when it's not so known, so when it is known, we can all be masters of it |

I know about 15 - 20 years ago I mentioned about lucid dreaming to a Girlfriend at the time when I was reading this book about it. I showed her the book and confessed to being able to do it once or twice and she didn't believe me. |

Yet people still ask me if I'm not just making it up. Some of my friends are genuinly intrested but lack the willpower others just disregard when you try to explain how great the feelings is. The worst is when I meet people who take lsd and don't believe me that lucid dreaming actually is twenty times as good. |

Also, at least in the west, exploring different states of awareness is usually not very popular. Actual lucid dreaming takes more of that then most people realize, i guess. |

I agree that lucid dreaming's popularity is increasing, but I wouldn't say it's becoming mainstream. I think the reason it's not so popular is, as others have said, the amount of effort you have to put in it (for some) and because dreams aren't really considered important by the society, mainly because dreams are "not real" or have no pratical use. People still seen to be close-minded to the idea of lucid dreaming, or at least where I live. Whenever I tell someone aobut it they say they don't have patience, are too lazy, that they would never manage it or they just don't show interest in it... |
