      Not sure about my WILD/DILD.

Can anyone here WILD when going to sleep? As in not having to wake up in the middle of the night, but instead doing it as soon as you go to bed? I've read that this is rare, but not impossible.

I'm asking this because I'm used to having DILDs and DEILDs all the time, and I had two lucids last night; one I know was a DEILD (the second one), but the first I'm not sure.

I went to sleep around 5a.m. after being awake for about 20 hours, so I was really freaking tired, but I don't know if I went into the dream immediately after I closed my eyes and relaxed, or if I lost consciousness and just went into a weird DILD later in the night. I can't say if there was a lapse in time/memory or not. I remember closing my eyes and then suddenly "waking up" in my room with my boyfriend sleeping next to me, and everything was dark, as it was in reality, and I just went, "Oh, it's a dream."

I did my usual RC and confirmed it. Then I proceeded to do stabilization, but I couldn't see shit, only faint smudges and shadows, so it was a little unstable. It felt like two, three minutes before I had a FA and knew something was wrong, so I did RC+stabilization again. Another dream. I was suddenly pulled from it when my boyfriend asked me something I can't remember right now IRL (could've still been a dream, but I don't think it was) so I spooned behind him and had my daily dose of DEILD.

Any insights on what the first LD might've been?

Also, does anyone here have lucids in complete darkness? I tried everything, but it remained dark as hell, even in that DEILD.

You can, but as you'll end up in light sleep and thereafter deep sleep. We only dream much in REM and that stage of sleep is very short during the first three cycles, after 4½ hours though you'll spend more and more time in REM. If you succeed with a WILD when you go to sleep for the night, you'll most likely end up in SP and no further, or if you do go further you'll have a very blurry and instable lucid dream. The dream you had sounds like a DILD, if you're that tired I'm sure your memory don't mind playing tricks on you.

I've had a few lucids in which I was in total darkness and could only feel. Dreams I refuse to let go of. It's the perfect state to start visualizing new stuff, try to think of something next time and think about touching the object. Soon your thoughts will turn into "real" actions in the dream.

I have managed to WILD in 30 seconds as I went to sleep 22:00 it is not as extra ordinary as it sounds because I was sleep deprived one day because I had been gaming at a friend's house so my brain wanted to REM-rebound immediatelly. However define lucid dream before bed... Because if you mean a vivid lucid REM dream in the first REM-period I have done that many times judged by my awakening time.

I went to bed 22:00 and had a short DILD and then woke up 00:15 by comparing that to the estimated REM timing (1 hour 30 minutes) It looks like the first REM to me.
But if you want to WILD before sleep you have to either wait for your REM to kick in which is 1 hour 30 minutes of laying still! Or if there now is a real phenomena of astral projection and OBE I guess you can try, but why risk it when you can skip the whole step by just DEILDing or WBTB?

But I think what you described is a response from your brain from the lost REM-sleep and you had just like me a REM-rebound which made you able to WILD immediatelly and dream vividly.

And I have never experienced complete darkness in a lucid dream, but I have experienced a not fully vivid dream very hazy and dark on several DEILD attempts, I usuallt just focus on the memory of the last dream I remember and transition into that one. Just remember to try to chain the dream if you wake up.

I hope this gave you some insight =)

What Mastermind just said about waiting an hour and a half is the huge reason it is almost pointless to WILD at bedtime. The REM phase just never hits, unless you have the patients to wait itt out, and it really takes over an hour. You may have some success reaching a much less vivid LD. It is not commonly realized, but we can dream in nREM and therefore, we can LD in nREM dreams. I personally believe this explains the LDs that occur in very poor lighting or with lame blurry visuals. However, nREM LDs can still be fun if you give up on trying to force the visuals. Many people assume they will just need to stabilize more and that something is wrong with the visuals. You can waste aa perfectly good nREM lucid by wanting it to be like a REM LD. If anyone finds themselves lucid, but can not get out of a dark or blurry setting, please explore your sense of touch and motion. I recommend that when you become lucid in nREM (dark blurry lucid) that you picture yourself walking, and then start touching your body with your hands. You can evolve a very solid feeling dream body. For the visuals simply think of them as line drawn cartoon visuals. You will not be able to count your fingers, but you will be able to use the line drawn cartoon format to create a landscape, trees, a road or what ever. I enjoy working on transformation in nREM as it is an awesome feeling, I also like to fly and do airial stunts.

My point is few realize why they are having poor visuals and waste the LD instead of enjoying the nREM side of it, which can be very tactile. If you stabilize and stick with it, it can eventaully change into REM and then you get a normal LD for being patient.
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.
