      weird hallucinations/ false awakenings

so i just woke up from a dream a little bit ago. it was pretty vivid. i woke up with the thought that i should've gotten lucid because of the vividness. but so i'm lying on my back with my arms crossed. i look over at the clock and see the correct time. everything looks normal, i'm awake.

i think to do a reality check so i lift up my arm to look at my hand. i wave my arm in front of my face but i can't see it. i'm just like what the hell? i keep waving my arm in front of my face and it flashes sometimes. then i try my other eye expecting to see it, nothing. i start seeing it with my left eye though and go back to my right, still nothing. then i'm thinking "is lucid dreaming messing up my brain?" and i was wondering if it was like that one episode of house where the guy can't see movement. so then i decide to get up, i jump on my couch and pet my dog and next thing i know i'm back in bed, it's a minute later than before. i just think "wow that was only a minute? had to have been at least 5".

this time i skeptical that i'm awake but the clock looks normal and is the correct time and i do another reality check where i can close one eye and see my nose, i can see it. go to check my hands again, same thing as before. what is going on i'm thinking. so then i'm thinking if this is a dream i'm lucid. i try to move my alarm clock with my mind, nothing.

then it happened a third time. opened my eyes and my arms are back in the crossed position, clock was another minute later. this time my brother came to ask me something and i answered him and changed positions and actually broke the loop. it was friggin weird though, i'm guessing i was just hallucinating the feeling of my arms moving or something and i was actually opening my eyes and looking at my clock and the ceiling. if my brother wouldn't have interrupted it i was thinking about just closing my eyes and trying to do a WILD (haven't done one before but this seemed like a good opportunity, probably would have been) but it was kind of late and i thought i should get up.

probably should've put this at the end but has anyone had anything like this? something where you're like half dreaming, opening your eyes and seeing waking reality but your mind isn't actually awake.

after thinking about it more it kind of reminds me of scene in a movie where the character will be lying there and the come out of their body. that's kind of how it was. maybe i did some astral projection when i was petting my dog.

Hi there. Well that sounds confusing indeed. I've had some experiences where I keep waking up and not see my hands too, until I eventually fall asleep. And when I wake up, only 3 minutes have passed even though I could've sworn it was like 10 minutes of struggling.

I think those are hypnopompic hallucinations. You get them when you're starting to wake up, and it can happen in any way that has to do with the senses. In this case, you may actually have moved your armed but just hallucinated and thought you didn't see them. That might also make sense since you mentioned that time was passing everytime it started happening. Dreams and hallucinations could feel longer even though they happen at very a quick speed.

If that happens, try to get up and walk around and maintain awareness. Eventually if it's a dream, you'll figure it out. If it's not, then you're already up and awake. just try not to do anything foolish just in case it's not a dream. Haha

      Cheers!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
