      Exclamation Nightmares. Help please.

I have been having quite a few nightmares recently and can't seem to figure out if there is any reason. They are very graphic and disturbing and get worse the more you scroll down. I'll give a rundown of them, perhaps someone can give any tips, help, or something of the sort.

The first one is I'm in my room relaxing watching TV when a giant spider appears, the size of a basketball. I'm absolutely terrified of spiders so naturally I yell and crush it. Then several more start coming through the windows, bed covers, pillows, bathroom etc... One gets on my chest and is about to bite me when I 'wake up'. I am very relieved to have 'woke up' but then I see the same giant spider on my stomach at which point I yell again and wake up for real, at which point I realize I had a false awakening.

The second is me very precisely killing a lot of people without remorse, several of which are family mainly my brothers. I don't remember the whole dream but I very clearly remember the chill of my machete in my hand and stabbing it into the back of my brothers neck. I wiped off the blade, put it back in its sheath and walk away. There are several others but each is far more graphic.. I'm trying my best to get the nightmares across while trying not to break any rules. When I woke up feeling horrible and numb as if it had actually happened.

The third is a type of apocalypse setting in which my family 'young nieces included' are all zombies / infected. I'm in my current house a two story, fairly large place. It looks like there was a fire, the wood and walls are blacked, destroyed or turned to ash, with pieces of wall missing. I have my machete in my right hand 'Which I actually own' and a .45 colt in my left hand as I sneak through the building. I see my niece who is currently four years old standing in the corner facing away from me.

I am very happy to have found one of my family members and run up to her yelling "Bell knuckles!" Which I do frequently. At this point she turns around and lets out a horrible scream. Her eyes are blackened, skin is grey, and jaw opens farther then is physically possible to reveal razor sharp teeth. I immediately aim the gun at her and pull the trigger. I then stand for a moment before turning around and walking back out the door.

The actual details are quite a bit worse but I am trying to keep it as 'friendly' as I can.

The third and final that I care to remember is me very precisely killing a lot of people without remorse, several of which are family mainly my brothers.

I have no clue why nightmares like these keep happening but I have lost a bit of sleep over these. The nightmares are extremely realistic far more then any dream lucid or non lucid I've had. I'm wondering what causes nightmares, why people have them, how you can get rid of them etc... I figure Dreamviews is the best place to post this. Thanks for any replies.

Thats absolutely harsh, I Hate nightmares. My suggestion is trying to go to bed happy and the best you can, and tell yourself that your dreaming, and say "this is not real" and change it from nightmare to lucid dream. I know that dreams about family are very terrible and are really harsh.

I wish you luck and hope you overcome these bad dreams.!

Oh and also one more suggestion, get a dream catcher. You may think they dont work, but when i was around 10 i had terrible nightmares and my mom got me one, and i have not had a nightmare since.

Thanks! I will be sure to get a Dream Catcher, I actually think I know where one is... I have tried to become lucid but it never seems to work.. For a moment or two I'll think "This is a dream" but continue with my actions anyway.

Hello there wageofwar. I'm also prone to some pretty disturbing and scary dreams. They were very frequent in my younger days. They are not as frequent now days, but they still happen. I had a particularly disturbing one the other night, even for me.

I don't know where they come from (other than maybe too many demented horror movies and novels ) or how to get rid of them, but Lucid Dreaming has done a lot to help me out with them. I've often become Lucid during very scary situations and learned to have fun overcoming the dreams. In fact facing and overcoming nightmares is one of my favorite Lucid Dreaming activities. However, once Lucid I'm fearless. So without fear it can't really be a nightmare any longer. It just becomes fun time regardless of how scary the situation might seem. So in general terms anyway, I don't mind nightmares. The worse they are, the more likely I'll become Lucid in them.

Sometimes if you have a recurring theme and learn to recognize it and become Lucid every time, those dreams can stop happening. That happened to me with falling elevator dreams. Kind of annoying actually, losing such a reliable dreamsign like that.

Nightmares are reflections of you. In order to sort them out you need to sort out yourself.

I am not saying that you are a monster, I am just saying that you need to deal with your inner monsters.

Think of this: A simple definition of dreams is that they are an experience of your (subconscious, memories, and emotions) so in other words they are an experience of your self.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that you represent a terrible nightmare, dreams are there for us to learn and to grow.

So what you can do is to really think about the meaning of each dream and ask yourself what it represent, the spider fear is understandable it's probably a result of your fobia for spider generally.
The dream of you killing people shouldn't be seen as something terrible either because dreams are as you probably have noticed often VERY exaggerated and, even though you are the best person to interpret, a possible interpretation could be that there is something that you don't like about your brother (perhaps even hate) like a behavior or something that makes you dream of killing him.
Just a little thing that can get you annoyed by him, can make you dream things like this, in order to stop this you need to confront that and either tell him that there is something you don't like or you can control your own emotions and realize that there is probably not a reason for you care about it at all. That is if this interpretation is correct that is, but it's probably not this was just to give you an idea of how to deal with a problem.

The third dreams seems to me (still you are the only one who can make an educated guess of the meaning) but it seem like a mixture of fear of the unknown and fear of losing someone.
If that's the case then you should think about how much they actually mean to you in life and appreciate them while awake and this will be planted in your mind instead and you will have caring dreams instead.

I know this is going to be hard, but it's what you need to do in order to get the nightmares to stop.

I once had a fear of bees because one just randomly flew into my ear while I was a kid and that sound of their wings bzzzz scared the h*ll out of me each time I heard it even when I was older.
Then I also got a bee flying into my eye so I really saw the details of the scary insect and I started to have nightmares of giant bees. Although as I started lucid dreaming and confronted my fears both daily and nightly it stopped and I am no longer afraid of bees.

So let go of ego (your personality looks at things and analyze and get afraid and nervous) and just observe what it is, it's just a fear, breathe in breathe out and let go of it.

I know it's not that simple but if you want to let go of your fears you need to confront them one by one.

Think of this, I was not afraid of ladybugs but I was afraid of bees.. Why? Because my subconscious, memories and emotions had bad attachments to bees.
So it appeared in my dreams. How did I get rid of it? By replacing the subconscious, memories and emotions I had by new experience.
I listened to the sound on youtube of buzzing bees until I no longer fell nervous while hearing it, I looked at cartoon bees that looked friendly and attached a happy emotion to bees, I then last but not least confronted the fear by seeing bees for real and realized that they wasn't as terrible as I thought.
And I had less nightmares about bees, however if I did had any dreams about them, it was no longer a nightmare.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!
