      No rhyme or reason

Like I've said before, I've had lucid dreams my whole life and it's only recently that I knew what they were called. Since I've been hanging around here for a couple weeks I've had more of them, probably just from the idea being planted in my head, but there is still no rhyme or reason to how I become lucid. I started logging the dreams a few days ago and I've gone back to look for patterns and there just doesn't seem to be one. There are ones where when I read over it I'll see all kinds of signs I should have noticed and didn't, then there were other dreams where nothing out of the ordinary was happening and the realization just hit me out of the blue that I was dreaming. You would think that the weirder dreams would trigger it easier, but that really hasn't been the case with the last couple I've had. The other night I was just talking to a guy and I blurted out that I was actually sleeping in bed and this was a dream and then a couple nights after that I became lucid after playing water polo, which I've never played before in my life, so I think that might have been a trigger, but the one before that there was nothing there to trigger it.

I think that in my case, instead of recognizing signs and what not, there are just times when it will hit me and times when it won't and that the only thing that has changed since I started coming on here is the frequency. I've gone from one or two a week to one about every other night and the main difference is that it's on my mind a bit more. Maybe there is a lot to say about the mindset and expectation more than the methods.

It's probably the same for natural lucid dreamers like yourself and to rest of us unlucky ones.

I also get lucid for different reasons. Most of the time I just realize. Maybe twice I noticed something strange. Once I heard a voice saying "I wonder how it will take her to realize she is dreaming". But there is also plenty of times when strange things, or talking about LDs, or seeing a sign saing "lucid" don't get me lucid.

The only difference between us is, that you don't have to do anything to get them, while we have to practice. My opinion, of course.

If you learn how to do it as a kid, and keep on experiencing it like it's the most natural thing in the world, you'll have them as an adult aswell. Some aren't as lucky and lose their ability. I got lucid pretty often as a kid but I need to try hard now to get lucid.

Wen I was a kid I had a grandmother who remembered dreams a lot and would often discuss them. I wanted to have something to offer in those conversations, so I ended up having good recall. I think a lot of that work that people have to do was done at a young age and my brain was pretty much trained.

It's funny though when I look back and realize that there really is no pattern to it at the moment. I'll become lucid out of nowhere in a rather uneventful dream and then miss all kinds of signs the next night.
