      I need help w / nightmares

I have had some medical problems over the last couple of months and to make a long story short my life has been like a nightmare that I hope to wake up from but don’t. The only hope that I thought I had was to Ld. But just about every morning when I return to sleep and hope to have a lucid dream, all I have is nightmares. I am reading Stephen LaBerge’s book of lucid dreaming and others a second time and recording my nightmares but not being lucid. I think it is preventing me from changing or taking control of the dream. Its been at lest 3 months now and no lucid dream.

Sorry to hear of your medical problems dreamtamer007. I hope you get them resolved.

I have had a strech of nightmares myself. I used them as a dreamsign. I turned it to my advantage.
Anytime that something gravely wrong was happening I became aware that I was dreaming do to the fact that I preset my notions to think along those lines.

How closely are your night mares compared to your real life turmoil?

They are not related to my waking life, only that they both, dream and waking life have a lot of stress and it causes me to be depressed from both worlds.

Well in this case it might be easier to distiguish between your nightmares and use them as a dream sign to become lucid.
And if you are able to become lucid you can face the fears head on with no reprecutions. Hopefully bettering your overall situation.

      Nightmares

      Dreamtamer,

I'm new to this site but used to suffer terribly with nightmares when I was a lot younger.

It lasted about 18 months and most of the time I was unable to move in the dream which made it even more distressing. It always started with me lying in bed trapped. Eventually (with a lot of concentration) as I was about to be attacked I would manage to knock over a light or break something which acted like a cue to wake me up. Then I could do it by squeezing my eyes shut really tight. It seemed like I knew i was dreaming but couldn't do too much about it.

The good news is that eventually I did break through and although I still suffer from nightmares some times (I'm nearly 40) I also have had some absolutely awesome Lucid dreams over the years.

So hang in there, try concentrating really hard or try breaking something it might help you too.

      Good luck :

      Dear Dreamtamer,

Can you recognize a certain motif or theme that runs through all of your nightmares? The trick to changing your life through dreams is not to interfer with the Dreams, through Lucidity, but to eventually solve the problems in your dreams through appropriate action. No, it is not necessary to be lucid in order to take the correct actions in dreams. One only needs to use suggestion in order to contemplate alternative and better action responses in our Dreams. Dreams are tests. To every dream situation, there is an appropriate response. If we do not make the appropriate response, then we run into having a series of dreams which offer a kind of remedial training. If we keep making the wrong choices, the spiral of remedial training only goes deeper.

Dreamtamer, you need to figure out what you are doing wrong, and then establish a program of affirmation and auto-suggestion that runs deep enough to that your Dreaming Self will begin to make the correct choices in your dreams.

Also, problems in life are not unsolveable. If your life is really so dysfunctional, simply evaluate what it would take to make your life better. Rotten job? Quit! Find a new job. Rotten marriage? Walk out! It is better to be lonely then constantly aggravated. Lonely? Get some cats. Rotten kids. Move out. Sending the old lady a child support check may seem expensive, but it buys you your freedom. The point is, if you have problems in your life, there ARE ways to deal with them.
