Should I give up on lucid dreaming?

Hey, all, I'm Bert. I introduced myself a year ago here.
In January of 2012, I read about LDing one night, and I then proceeded to have a brief LD that very first night. Over the next couple of weeks, I had a few more LDs that lasted a little longer. They were awesome, some of the best things ever!

I became completely hooked on LDs, and I read everything I could to have better and longer LDs.

However, I never had another LD. They entirely stopped, no matter what I tried, month after month.

I've waited a whole year to see if my LDs would return, but they haven't. I'm extremely disappointed, and I would do anything to make them return.

Could someone please provide some advice?
      Thanks in advance.

I should add that I sleep fairly regularly each night.
(A year ago, I found a different way to sleep to induce lucid dreams, but it wasn't practical at all.)

There is no point in giving up on lucid dreaming, what you need to do is take a break for a week and then revisit your options. What techniques have you been following, ask yourself honestly have you persistently, was there regular periods were you lost interest for a few days?
The biggest problem with people failing to LD has to do with dedication, it is vital that you are properly sticking to techniques.

I would recommend not giving up. It is so fun!

Check out the thread "what is most important to LD!" In my sig. It has a lot of wisdom from some people that are better LDer than me. it also has my opinion as well though.

I hope you decide to continue. Good luck!

I would say start from the scratch. Read some new tutorials, make some new goals for LDing (like what you want to do in LD), write it in your DJ. Of course, get yourself a dream journal and start recording your dreams. Get your motivation up from reading DV.

You already know how LD feels, so you have an advantage in that department. We are here for you to answer your questions. Good luck

Did you continue to work on your recall?
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

It has been said more than a few times that in order to stay motivated you need to enjoy the process. I haven't had a lucid dream for over a week, but still find ways to enjoy my normal dreams. I focus on targeted dream recall, I experiment with different ways to direct my expectation. What your brain expects is likely what will happen in your dreams. I have been doing some detective work investigating my normal dream characters (DCs). I am suspicious that there is only a few basic 'genetic memory clusters' that dress up or shape-shift to look like a variety of different types of dream characters. Have you ever noticed that DC's don't seem just right. Even if you know them in the dream they seem a bit weird? When I wake up after a dream while still half asleep I question the DCs I can remember from the last dream. I ask stupid questions like what is their favorite pizza topping and stuff like that. A few times they got really angry and started swearing at me. anyway the point is to find a way to have some fun with your dreams. Lucid dreams are by far the best, but even normal dreams can be entertaining if you can get some control of those pesky DCs.
      Bobblehat and dutchraptor like this.
Imagine a place where everything that can happen, does happen; where past, present, and future are all together; a kaleidoscope of worlds – form without substance, ripples upon ripples upon waves upon waves of pure experience – limitless worlds of possibility, existing beyond time ... This is the world ... we visit each night in our dreams.

Yo, never give up on something that you like.
Have you had any change in lifestyle/sleeping schedule year ago? Personally i was having hard time lucid dreaming even after small changes.
Other than that, maybe give a try to method/technique different from what you used before? Sometimes when i have periods of low success with one method, i suddenly start having success with different one.
