Can someone please explain to me what I have - after 20 + years of this i have to ask

      Hello board,

First of all this is my first post so if I sound "totally newb" about this whole dream realm terminologies please forgive me. So let me begin. Well, because of certain "issues" that would occur only during my sleep ( I wont go into it here, it maybe too "dark" for most, but nothing of my doing ) I had to adapt a mechanism.

To cut a very long story short I am now in a position where I have full control within my dreams - I can think of where to go, I can drive, talk intelligently to people in it, eat etc - anything really. I am also very powerful so I can hover, fly, have immense strength if needed and now the things I used to run from in recurring nightmares I can actually fight and defeat. I know, sounds weird. I can wake up anytime if I find a dream boring and "sometimes" - I do repeat - "sometimes" I can hear people if they are talking near me ( I am asleep and they are awake talking) and to check this when I wake up I ask them if they were talking about this and that and they say "yes, but weren't you asleep?"

Although its uber cool I have acquired so much control over my dreams if they are very intense I wake up far more tired then when I went to sleep and sometimes with severe migranes. So what is this "technically" I`m curious..

Let me ask you. Do you know in your dream that you are dreaming?

If yes, than you are having lucid dreams. Some people do develop this ability be themselves exactly for the reason you did - to fight the nightmares.

If you don't know you are dreaming, then you learned to control your regular dreams.

To hear people talking when you supposedly asleep - you could have hightened awareness and be in both worlds at the same time.

Another possibility is, that the people you heard talking were a hypnagogic/hypnapompic hallucination or a lucid dream. To hear people talking is not so unsusual for someone, who is practicing lucid dreaming, because we train our minds to be aware at times, when others' minds are already asleep. So we do experience all kinds of HH.

If the people talking were a lucid dream, than when you "woke up and asked them about it", it would have been still a dream.

See, not as weird as you thought If you need help learning more, just ask.

To answer you, yes, I do know that I am asleep and no, its alot worse than nightmares, but I wont go into that. Also, I am 100% the people I heard were not a dream, I am very aware what is and what isnt now... I can even take out whole areas in dreams if needed so I`m pretty much an ace on this "Lucid Dream" front then... thanx for filling me in... So some people actually practise to get to this awareness level voluntarily ? Wow. I didnt have a choice... Thanx again...

I used to fall asleep with music on, and in my dreams i would continue to listen to listen to the song, and when i wake up...the same exact song is on at the point i left off in my dreams, so i'm guessing its normal :p
