      Sign of Lucidity

So I realized something earlier today and wanted to post it as a question on here. I might change my name to question man or badger...Anyways, I realized that I never have nightmares or dreams that don't go well. I have never actually attained full lucidity in a dream but I was curious if this is a sign? I don't like scary things like roller coasters or horror movies. Is this me brain filtering out or taking control of dreams in the concept of not making me scared?

I just wanted to hear people opinions on this since I don't think there will be any actual scientific proof.

Hmm, the technical definition of lucidity is that one needs to consciously realize that it is a dream, else it is not a lucid dream. And people can be lucid and still have nightmare, although if they are lucid enough they will not be scared, but some people have some lucid dreams and some non-lucid or insufficiently lucid nightmares.

Is it possible that your subconscious is "controlling" your dreams by filtering out nightmares? I say, why not, a lot of things are possible in dreams and different people dream in different ways.

Are you more or less likely to become lucid because you do not have nightmares? Only you can know that answer for yourself. For me, nightmares have in the past actually helped me become lucid a lot of times because my waking life is generally very different from my nightmares (thankfully), and so I was able to notice the difference. Plus for me overcoming nightmares is one of the motivations for trying harder to attain lucidity, so for me not having any nightmares might actually make attaining lucidity less likely though still possible of course. However, the point is: you are not me, so for you all this may be different.

Thanks Joanna, this makes sense to me and answers my question very clearly.

Not everyone has nightmares, or you might have had them but just can't recall. Either way as JoannaB said you don't need to have nightmares to get lucid, though they do help some people to get lucid.

As you said JoannaB answered your question but I thought of something - the way I interpreted your first question is asking whether the absence of scary things in your dreams is a dream sign for you; i.e, an indicator that you are dreaming. If this is your question - I would definitely say no. Dream signs are supposed to be things that occur in your dreams relatively frequently so that when you recognise them in real life you can do a reality check thereby building a habit. If you do an RC in waking life every time your identified dream sign occurs then when that dream sign pops up in your dream you will automatically do an RC and gain lucidity. No scary things around is too vague as a dream sign.

On your second question, I agree with JoannaB and Checker666. Maybe you don't have scary dreams or maybe you do and just don't remember them. Either way it's probably not a big thing as far as attaining lucidity goes.
