Talking about being in a dream before actually turning lucid?

So it seems like my subconscious always carries with it this kind of half awareness of the dream state every time it falls asleep. Not completely lucid, but just always aware of something being off/ back in that other dream reality. However, I usually don't fully understand the implications of this. It's much like carrying a low level of lucidity with me through all the dreams. This has happened to me multiple times, but I believe last night I took it to a whole new level.

Someone asked me what I wanted to do in my dream next, I replied "Oh IDK, I'll probably wake up in 2 minutes anyways so it doesn't really matter". This was towards the end of the night. But for some reason this did not turn me lucid. It wasn't until a couple minutes after this, we were all sitting at a table eating food when it suddenly hit me. Oh, this is a DREAM! And then I figured out I could get up and do whatever I wanted.

It just really confuses me how I can talk about currently being in a dream, yet this still doesn't turn me completely lucid!

It's not that uncommon to talk about dreaming without getting lucid, since it's awareness that makes us lucid in first place it may just have been low in that case, not enough for getting lucid, but then it got higher later and that's when you realized it.

Ugh, I know what you're talking about. I hate when I don't become lucid when my subconscious is practically telling me that I'm dreaming! I suppose that the best thing for you to do would be to start doing reality checks any time dreaming is mentioned, though of course I can't guarantee that that will help.
