      Scary False Awakening LD

So lately I've been having lots and lots of false awakenings. However this one was notably scary.

I woke up in my bed, everything looked exactly the way it should be. I pushed my sheet back, got out of bed and started to get dressed. I then had the strange idea that because I've been having so many false awakenings that maybe this was one too. I looked in the mirror and my face was distorted, like something quite strange. I immediately knew I was dreaming and that I had once again been duped. I just wanted to wake up. Quite often in these WILD's I become scared because in a false awakening you've basically been told that you're kind of at home, but it isn't home and nothing is real. It feels like purgatory, or OZ. There's no place like home and I just wanted to get back to reality.

I shook my head like I usually do and focused hard on shaking myself out of the dream. I've done this since I was a child, fighting to get back my senses from my real body. Trouble is, this doesn't seem to work anymore and I don't know why but in all my false awakenings strange things happen when I try to wake up properly. This time I felt myself fall to my bed, I'm not sure how that happened in the dream but I ended up lying back in bed with the blankets on me again.

Now is where things got scary. All of a sudden I couldn't move, not one inch. I've had sleep paralysis before and it was actually a little bit enjoyable but this episode of sleep paralysis was more scary because I was in the dream. I started to worry that things in the dream would get me and I felt unbelievably scared. I totally panicked and with the only movement I could muster I just let out a howling sound, like a sick person struggling just "huuuu" cause that's all I could do. I had been paralysised for quite some time and was hoping someone would hear my cries for help and wake me. I could hear my mother get out of bed and come to my door. She asked "Kyle??" "Kyle???" "Are you okay?" but I couldn't respond. By this time all I could make was a whistling noise of pushing air out as hard as I could. She never came into my room but I woke up about 10 seconds later. No one was at my door and I came to in my bedroom. I was worried I'd bothered someone but I was finally awake after that torture.

That sounds really scary, I feel sorry for you. I didn't experience anything like that myself (lucky me ) so I'm not sure what you should do, but why are you fighting those false awakenings? You are afraid when you have them, and your fear manifested as you being paralyzed in your dream. Why not use them instead, those are lucid dreams after all, and it doesn't matter that they start with a false awakening you can still control them. Well, unless you are too afraid, then the fear takes over but remember that scary things happen because of your fear of false awakenings.

This is really awesome how similar dreams can be. I had exactly the same FA and exactly the same actions. My wife was sleeping next to me and I woke up but it was a FA, then I appeared back in the bed and woke up again and I thought I woke up for real, but I could not move a single muscle and I thought "ok... this is SP", I was sleeping on my side and could see my wife right next to me, I tried to shout but all I could do was to push some air out with some really low voice like "huuu", after few minutes I could move and as soon as I moved I appeared back in my bed in the same position as before. I realized that it was another FA and I suddenly woke up, my wife woke up too because I was breathing too fast. I asked her if she heard me talking and she said no.

I am getting that kind of FA's very often. In the beginning I was scared every time I had one, but later I got used to it and I could stay calm. But that was only the beginning of weird part of lucid dreaming. I had more and more FA's every day and then weird things started to happen. Instead of simply having FA's, I was so sure that I woke up for real and then I could see and feel the same object that was definitely a dream object, that kind of experience scared the hell out of me. That was a whole new chapter of fear that I ever experienced.

Man I hope you will walk through the same path as I did, I believe this is a whole new chapter for you in lucid dreaming. Next time expect this to happen and try to relax and enjoy instead of getting scared, you will notice many weird and interesting things around you.

Will be waiting for any update on this

Hey flow, thanks for sharing your story. It really helped me to read that. Also blackhammer you're right, it was hardly the best reaction.

Next time I'll try to relax more, I just instantly get freaked out.
