Wonder what her reasoning was? Are there any widely accepted reasons that LDing can be bad? |

I was having lunch with one of the VP's of the company I work for the other day when, for some reason, I decided to drop a casual comment about lucid dreaming. We were contemplating dessert, and I mentioned how I conjured up a whole pastry shop full of desserts and enjoyed them in my dream. "She said, "Oh! My son is getting into that, and I told him to go easy on it. I don't think it's a good idea." I didn't ask her to elaborate, because I didn't want to get placed in the position of having to defend lucid dreaming to my boss's boss. Still, I thought it was an interesting enough comment to share. It's not all that often you even find someone who knows what lucid dreaming is, let alone believes in it. |

Some people seem to have this concept (sometimes from a religious standpoint) that LD is "unnatural" and therefore bad, some people seem to look at it with the same disdain as they look at witchcraft (but hey, I think witches are pretty cool). Another perspective I've encountered is that it's simply a waste of time and not something you should put effort into when you could be doing productive things which sort of ties into the idea about people getting obsessed with it and blocking out the rest of your life, like I was just posting in another thread about. I think the negative connotation on LD mostly stems from people being uninformed or misinformed about it, or simply "not getting it." |

Lucid dreaming couldn't really be unnatural, if thats what some people think. It's not really a time waster either, the action itself is done while asleep, and you dont have to do much study on it and stuff. I cant bring it up with my friends, I just cant find the right time to talk about it. |

I agree with you DarkDreamer, that is just my impression of what other people think and I've seen people state similar things in the past (not people I actually know). Maybe I said the waste of time part wrong but just the idea that it's pointless and unproductive, and it is true that some methods take effort in waking life. The line of thinking doesn't make sense to me either. When I have brought it up to people personally, the main response I got was more like "what's the point?" and they completely miss it. How can you watch TV or read books and enjoy the story, then pass up the opportunity to create your own? |

My brother told me about lucid dreaming, and a few days later he told me fake information about it. He said that you can die in the dream or something. I ignored it, looked it up, and it was fake. Now he doesn't even lucid dream anymore. But I'm so glad that that didn't scare me enough to stop lucid dreaming. |
