      Dental Hygienist

I was in the dentist's chair yesterday, and he told me that based on my airway structure, he was sure I must have sleep apnea. He said, "I'll bet you don't dream very much, do you?" I said, "Oh, I dream a LOT. In fact, I'm getting pretty good at LUCID dreaming." The hygienist said, "Oh my God, that's great! What's your technique?" She went on to tell me about a recent lucid where she was able to conjure a weapon to fight off a dream character (oddly, it was one of her child's toys).

It's starting to seem to me that there are LOTS of people out there with an interest in lucid dreaming. It's surprising to me that almost every time I drop a comment in mixed company about lucid dreaming, someone speaks up with their own story.

Hey, that's so cool and unexpected. I mostly get a lot of weird looks, so usually probe the territory by making innocent remarks about recent non-lds. It's great to hear that there are many lders out there!

I don't talk about lucid dreaming in conversation to people anymore besides my close friends. It's like how when you first start smoking and you're always talking about last night when you were high, but now that you've smoked for ten years you don't give a shit about telling people how blazed you were because it's just not entertaining anymore. You get the same responses and shit, and it seems like you're bragging or something.

Like I'll be at various events and people will briefly chit about lucid dreaming, and for some reason I just don't say anything anymore. Perhaps I find their conversations to be stupid and laughable and naive. It's only when my close friends point at me when the topic of lucid dreaming arises that I'll talk to others about it. I've never met somebody in person that is actually knowledgable in the subject so there's just not enough stimulation there to hold a conversation equally.

Anyone else feel the same way?
