      Sleep paralysis question.

When you're in SP, are you awake or asleep? The actual paralysis is the projection of your dream or it really happens?

I'm asking this because when I'm in SP I can move my hands to perform reality checks, and I realize that I'm dreaming but the rest of my body is heavy and numb.

Hi, Pethrem! I believe what you're talking about is REM Atonia, here's a quote from the post I linked:

People are experiencing awareness during sleep of a normal nightly process. It may feel like you are not connected to your body and many people describe it as a heavy-blanket feeling. It may feel like you are on narcotics.
I do suggest you read the whole thread, as they explain everything very well!
