Thread: Lucidity check

Does anyone else carry out a check (in the style of Inception) that they are actually Lucid and not in the real world? When I've been in a lucid state I've always made sure I can fly before attempting to do anything else. Just to make sure I'm not going to make an absolute fool of myself and have totally lost touch with what is real and what is not.

These are really common for us Lucid Dreamers.
A reality Check, looking at your hands (how many fingers do you have), a clock (is the time wrong), a mirror (do yea see a reflection) , do light switches work and possibly look at people as they may look off.

You mean that spinner that he carries around I assume, I don't think they work too well as in some dreams it may not be there. Thats just what I have heard so I could be wrong.

Also, the spinner could actually fall too in a dream. It is not necessarily that if you are in a dream it will never tumble. Also I love the nose plug RC.

Most of lucid dreamers do, and that helps awareness alot. I do various RCs IWL, though i often end up not doing RC in dream because i often become lucid because of specific feeling in dream.

Feeling? Like a hunch? Can a beginner try to feel it in a LD and memorize it for future use? How do you detect it? Do you need heightened self-awareness and prospective memory?
Sorry for that many questions, but I need that answer

The more LDS I have the more I recognize the feel of a dream so RC are getting rarer for me. I don't even practice them much now, but if I go a week or so without an LD I start RCs back up.

It's like your becoming more self-aware in the dreams

My problem with reality checks is that I almost never trust them.
If I do the reading check I am always afraid that I might have misread on my first check, and if I manage to fly I always feel like it might have been a false memory.
But at least it makes me confident enough to try out various things.

But at least it makes me confident enough to try out certain barely acceptable things;
one test I made in one of my longest lucid dreams was to simply walk up to an attractive girl and kiss her, and she just accepted it and welcomed it - and since something like that would almost never be blindly accepted just like that in waking life I was fairly confident that it was a dream. xD

I haven't tried that before, I will try and remembering doing that in my next lucid dream. =P

It's just that lucid dreams tend to be really realistic, and it actually feels like you are physically there, so it's quite overwhelming to accept that nothing actually exists.
I have become lucid several times in the past, but sometimes I have that doubt inside me that doesn't completely go away, even though I am practically sure that I am dreaming.
