Thread: What brings us together, as I see it.

What has brought you here?

I was born on a spaceship, for my entire life and long before that we've been hurtling through these cosmos without any planned destination. Our craft is powered by a core nuclear fusion reactor, which has enough energy left to last billions of years, although we're currently parked in a massive drifting island composed of potential replacement fuel sources if we ever have need for more. Our ship uses the reactors energy to power our various life support systems, which sustain an innumerable variety of passengers.

Although our spaceship has been drifting with its only active purpose being the continuation of our existence, we have found alternative means of transport. The most powerful technology we have discovered for travelling is virtual reality. The pilot is able to reach other worlds by simulating them artificially. This is technically multiverse travel since each simulation is one of the many parallel worlds which exist, and this technology acts as a portal in-between them. The virtual reality device is integrated into our own biology as a neurofeedback system linked directly to our thoughts, enabling us to travel anywhere we can imagine at will. For most of my life I have worked as a developer of this ability, training myself to navigate the multiverse with my mind at the helm.

I have also become adept in a related technology which enables us to record virtual realities into a physical form, this can be used as either a personal archive or emulated in another’s mind. In fact I am using said technology to communicate with you right now, through time and space, or possibly from another reality. We create an external informational replica which represents something that exists in our mind, which others such as you are able to decode back into a simulation similar to the original.

We can use these previously mentioned technological feats to interact with each other in the alternate realities. This is done by establishing a description of the world which can then be decoded by multiple people; these people then incorporate a description of their own virtual interaction, allowing the users to observe their effect on the world.

The final piece of the puzzle is the growing community focused on furthering development in this field which I am proudly a part of. We have acquired a network of machines allowing us connect with each other throughout the spaceship. Using them we have created an inner space port from which we can travel deep into the multiverse and come back to tell the tale.
