Dreamsigns - How do I LD if I don't notice them?

I seem to be hopeless with becoming lucid. Last night, for instance, I had an OBE, and I didn't become lucid! I even made something dissappear after my OBE, but still didnt realise it was a dream. This has happened on numerous occasions where, for example, I can fly, hover, do a number of inhuman things, or even see very wierd things happening around me, but I still don't become lucid. Once, I was able to breath underwater and I thought: 'hmmm, I could do this in my last dream too' but for some very bizarre reason I didnt become lucid. I must have realised it was a dream, but didnt seem to care much at all. Now I am desperate to have a lucid dream, and I would definitely not let a dream slip by like that while knowing its a dream!
Also, in most nightmares I've had when I'm running away from something, I always try to make myself wake up by closing my eyes or something similar. This means I must know I'm dreaming, but it's so frustrating when I can't take any control over it.
It seems to me like my consciousness is been held back behind closed gates while I'm dreaming, and it can't get past no matter what. Is this normal? What can I do to get my consciousness incorporated into my dreams?!?

I feel like I’m in the same boat at this time. I’ve decided the most important dream I would like to have would be first to be totally aware of my lucidity wile realizing at the same time the body is in bed in said room at said address with no doubt what so ever of the true state that my dreaming mind and sleeping body. This may not sound like an exciting dream to have but once fully aware of the true states of being I think from there anything may be possible. I read about someone who had that kind of experience were every aspect of what was happening is apparent including clear thought of mind, being able to think just as I am thinking right now. We experience that to some degree in order to be lucid but the low level of self-awareness allows us to be carried away with excitement and lose sight of or aim to first become totally aware.

Pensive Patrick, are you or have you ever been interested in the occult? By "occult," I mean supernatural practices, like magic or performing miracles. I ask because it seems like you wish you could do these things (fly, breath underwater, etc.) in waking life, or else you would categorize them in a box of dream phenomena and exclusively recognize them as such. Since you do not recognize them exclusively as dream phenomena, you are not able to recognize them as dream signs.

      dreamtamer007,

These are what some of my best lucid dreams are like. It helps, I suppose, to have begun the lucid dream in one's room, like an OBE. Next, it helps to have a habit or strategy of keeping this in close proximity in your memory. For instance, I once flew out of my house and straight up into the sky, while looking down at my back yard and the houses around it, with the intention of staying oriented around my home. Of course, the scenery changed and I was in a dizzying sky, settling down on a floating island, but I did not forget that I was in the sky because I had flown up from my house. This functioned as kind of like a trail of bread crumbs... Also, if you speak to dream characters, tell at some point that you are dreaming, that you are actually in your bed at home, and that you are able to speak with them because you are dreaming. This helps you stay focused and reminded, as well as providing some interesting conversations.

      .
So it looks like you have a good memory of past events while dreaming. Like you said (kind of like a trail of bread crumbs... ) that’s great. Thanks for the input.

No, I'm definitely not interested in the occult. Thanks for your help anyway.

      Hello Patrick,

You might try increasing your tactile awareness while awake to produce results while in the dreamstate.

Robert Bruce offers a step by step method called NEW, here:

I am exactly the same way. I will be dreaming, and start breathing under water, but the only thought that I ever have is "HEY! I can breathe underwater now, this is cool" It is such a disapointment when I wake up.

When I dream I always have SOME kind of a dream sign, but i never recognize it while im sleeping. Ive tried so many different ways to recognize that im dreaming but nothing is working. Is there a way to make my mind see a dream sign and recognize it immediatly?
