Just because you did a reality check, it won't make you lucid. You can't just do reality checks just to do them, you need to actually check your surroundings and make sure your are not in a dream in real life. By doing that, your dream self will do the same thing, and if something you strange or not as same as real life, you become lucid.

Like Gaea said, just doing a RC won't make you lucid. Every time you do one in real life you should double check (sometimes certain RC's won't work) and then think about something lucid dreaming related such as your dream goal or what you would do if you were dreaming. That way, while you're dreaming you won't just do a RC and move on, you'll actually think about dreaming and be more likely to become lucid.

The good news is that you did an RC In a dream. That means you were close. Having enough awareness to consider an RC Is good. Now learn to do serious RC's.

When you do a reality check in real life, have a serious mindset that you are actually dreaming, and you want to confirm that. Test such that you are SURE you are awake since the dreaming mind can come up with weird justifications why your check failed. Don't assume you are awake or the check won't be serious.

Ask yourself this - how would you react if someone in waking life suddenly told you that you were dreaming at that moment?
Would you consider that a dreamsign, or would you dismiss it as "nonsense"?
Most people would just think of it as a silly question, but lucid dreamers would probably consider it a major dreamsign.
