Can you train your body to fall asleep in different positions?

I wanted to be able to fall asleep on my back for years, I try it very rarely, because every time I do, after 10 minutes it feels like I'm laying on rocks and needles. My bed is soft and smooth, I'm rarely uncomfortable when I lay on my side, so I don't know why I start feeling like that. It gets so uncomfortable that it becomes painful and I feel a very, very strong urge to roll on my side to be comfortable and fall asleep.
The problem with sleeping on my side is that I cannot for the life of me stay awake to perform a WILD in that position, while on my back I am always way too aware and get very uncomfortable. I tried to deal with side sleeping countless times, trying to hold my awareness but it seems futile, so I'm hoping there's a way I can train my body to relax and fall asleep on my back so the balance can occur there. Is it possible? Has anyone successfully went from an exclusively side-sleeper to back-sleep-capable?

      some solutions:
be more tired when trying to sleep on back
be more awake when trying to sleep on side
      Try a third unknown position

WILDing is not about sleeping position. It is about controlling your awareness. It is a balance, and I think that we all need to experiment with our own waking and sleeping times, positions, and anchors. Here is a thread that helps me a lot with WILDing

It can definitely be done. I used to exclusively sleep on my back but had to start sleeping on my side because of heel pain. BUT…Sensei's advice is perfect!..that is what I would focus on…trying the different solutions and checking out those guides. Good luck!

If you're having trouble sleeping on your back, put a pillow under your knees. That slightly elevates the legs and thus alleviates stress on your back.

I've been forced to learn to sleep in a different position a few times in my life, due to sports injuries. It can be done, though the first few nights I usually don't get much sleep. After a while though, you're body gets used to the new position and you get tired enough that you will fall asleep. At least that's how it's been for me.
