Dream plots are beginning to be a problem

I trying to figure out how to avoid being sucked in by heavy dream plots. In non LDs if I find myself just walking around maybe mingling with a few DCs, the chance I would become aware are great. However if i am in or -get involved in complicated dream plots, there would be hardly no chance of having an LD. I would miss obvious dream signs and crazy shit like coffee makers changing into cats ( yep happened last night). This happens to me as well in full blown stabilized LDs. I would become aware and start flying around doing cool stuff when all of a sudden get sucked into a involved plot subsequently loosing my awareness. There also have been occasions where I become aware and confirm with an RC then deciding to remain and increase involvement in the plot and not flying away like i usually do. I have been on Lunesta for a few months and wonder if this has something to do with it ( which is another topic i will address in a separate thread).

One way to keep yourself from getting too wrapped up in dream plots is to do RCs at times during the day when there is a lot of "plot." In other words, to remember to RC even when a large amount of your attention is devoted to a single sequence of events. This can be difficult, since when there is a lot of "plot" IWL is when you have the least amount of spare attention with which to remember to RC, but it should help with getting too wrapped up in dream plots.

      Hey there,

In addition to the above advice, make sure you have a clear dream goal for when you're lucid. With your attention focused on that during a lucid dream, there's less chance of you getting sucked back into your regular dream plots (as opposed to if you're just exploring around).

Good point to do RCs during the day when a lot of things are going on, Ill give it a try. I do almost all of my daily RCs when im not doing anything. It happened again last night where I was in a very long non LD packed with plenty of drama. I had 2 situations where "needed to become aware" in order to continue the plot. The first one I was escaping prison on top of a very tall building. I recalled thinking to myself " I better make sure i am dreaming before I jump". Done a hand RC and flew down to the ground and hopped on a train with a bunch of friends. Lost awareness and continued the plot. The other one was I got separated from my group and couldnt move fast enough to catch up with them. I done a hand RC, became aware and jumped on my imaginary rocket sled to catch up with them only to loose awareness and continued on with the plot. I sure hope this is a temporary phase im going through............

I think that there are two things that can help you out here:

      - Improve your focus while dreaming by improving your recall (write in your dream journal)
      - Have a single, clear goal that you can focus on when you become lucid

Otherwise it's easy to get distracted.

Personally, I like the dream plots. They're often more interesting than any single goal or series of goals that I might come up with while awake, so right now I'm focused more on mining those ideas than improving my LD quality.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.
