      Difficulty recording surreal dream plots and scenes.

      Any tips?

      My dreams lately are often completely random and surreal, with complex landscapes and difficult plots and stories. When I wake up, and maybe this is just because I haven't been recording my dreams lately, I feel overwhelmed about how to begin writing this surreal dream. The story ideas, concepts and visions are so new and abstract to me that its hard to explain out loud or on paper. Therefore, I often skip recording the dreams in my DJ. :{

      Anyone have similar experiences and tips how to write down such dreams?

      I have the exact same problem, often I just go through them in the morning and sometimes I draw a sketch or just take an extract cause I'm lazy.

      A good title or drawing will be all you need to remember the broad plot. From there write about small details that you feel you would forget about if you didn't.

      Analogise. Describe feelings, what the environment felt like, or other things it reminded you of. Even better, try to identity the sorts of schema the setting involved or activated, and mention them. If you don't know what a schema is, I highly reccomend you read chapter 5 of Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming by Dr. Stephen LaBerge (though if you hope to learn lucid dreaming, you should read the whole thing).

      Thanks everyone for the tips and help. Supernova, I haven't read that book before but I've heard much about the author before. :} I'll have to look it up soon.
