"Divergent" About Lucid Dreaming? *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

I just finished watching the movie "Divergent" and I realized something interesting that lucid dreamers could relate to. If you haven't seen the movie it is basically a community of people who choose to be in one of five factions. The factions are sorted essentially by strength, smarts, kindness, honesty, etc. Those who do not have the qualities of a single faction are labeled as divergent. Anyways.... I realized that everyone who cannot distinguish reality from the dream realm is labeled into one of the five factions, while those who, like the main character and lucid dreamers, can distinguish reality from dreams are labeled as divergent. Therefore, all of us that have become lucid and those of us who are practicing to become lucid would easily fall into the divergent category, which I think is sort of cool! Thanks for reading my two cents! I hope you all appreciate hearing my thoughts, I just couldn't stop thinking about lucid dreaming while watching the movie so I knew I had to post it here! -Sassy

Sorry to hijack your thread, I haven't seen Divergent. However last night I watched the film 'Lucy', and decided that next time I was lucid I would order my brain to work at 100% capacity (I know the 10% thing is a myth, but still interesting). This morning I became lucid, asked my brain to work at 100% capacity and had some really amazing experiences! Again, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but there are a lot of awesome movies out there which can be great inspiration for lucid dreaming. Thanks for mentioning 'Divergent', I'd love to hear some other recommendations too

So I'm not the only who thought of this. I definatly agree that it does seem very reminiscent of LDing, although I doubt she specifically had that in mind since she later Spoiler for "Spoiler from book 3 (and maybe 2)": goes into the whole genetically pure thing and what not. The Divergent do seem to be a bit like us in their uniqueness and nonconformance though. Let's just hope no one catches on and starts hunting us down.

I had actually just watched this movie 2 days ago, and the day after you create this thread I also got a bit of the sense of lucid dreaming from it, especially how she seemed to do whatever she wanted to when she wanted the majority of the time. And being self aware with the whole mirror/reflection thing too. Really enjoyed the movie, now have to watch 'Lucy' soon.

Haha. Well.... spoilers? Yeah, spoilers. Spoiler for spoilers: alright. The idea is that these people are genetically changed to be only one thing and thus fit in a a faction. The only reason that it let's them decide is to be a teenage socialistic movie without being just a socialistic movie (how does it benefit society to let them choose? It doesn't. It would be easier if they just looked at the results and said "go there" and it would be easier to catch divergents this way as well). So since they are genetically modified, the divergent is actually normal humans. Wah wah wah. No matter how you genetically modify someone to fix them, they can't be better than the original (I think. It has been a while since I read it) Looking at the first movie and the simulator, which works for genetically modified, but not for normal humans, then yeah, we would be like that, but let's look at it from a new perspective, because I think that the first two books were much better than the last and that the last went off topic and screwed up the whole thing (for more information see hunger games). So going from this idea that we are unable to changed by our surroundings like "divergents"(which BTW that word makes no sense... because divergent doesn't mean more than one category) then real world things like this shouldn't have an effect on us (see matrix). And different psychological disorders that taint reality should be less likely. Lots of disorders where people have splits personalities or has constant hallucinations or ptsd should be avoidable if you are a lucid dreamer. More connected to reality and being more set in the "now". The problem is that only ptsd is common, and I doubt that the military will start adding lding into their training. However it could stop you from getting ptsd from different bad things that can happen, such as mugged, raped, bad car accident etc. Haha, a little off topic, but I thought it would be a fun addition to the convo.

That's a good idea. Once while lucid, I said to myself "Increase clarity now! " It worked really well and my memory was working great. This was quite impressive since I had just gotten out of the hospital and was still on morphine so my physical brain was mush.
