How lucid are you when lucid dreaming ?

      Hi everyone,

i really need your help on that one. How lucid are you when you lucid dream ? We could use a scale from 1 to 10.

Can you remember your name, the current date, that you're in a bed sleeping, everything you did yesterday, today's upcoming events ?
Is the you of the dream a continuous version of your waking self?

Or, instead, is your lucidity only partial ? If so, how much partial ? What do your dream self lacks compared to your waking self ?

Little background to understand why i need your insight :
      - i've probably never been really lucid,
      - i often had false lucid dreams during the past years, where my subconscious "knows" that the dream is a dream, but i'm still not conscious.
      - i had read a research paper which stated that lucidity comes from very brief laps where your conscious takes the lead of the dream and orients the plot.
      - i kind of remember that most lucid dream literature agree on "lucidity levels", that some lucid dreams are more lucid than others.

Now, based on this, i had concluded that lucidity may not really exist,
and that people usually carried their intention into their lucid dream for their subconscious to do the job.

Personally it really depends on the lucid dream. If I take just a bit of time to reality check and stabilize then it's usually going to be an 8/10, which is usually about as lucid as I get in waking life.
In those lucid dreams it's usually really easy to remember anything from real life, although sometimes it might take a small effort.
Admittedly, some lucid dreams are much less lucid than others. Again it depends on wether or not you raise you lucidity level and stabilize during the dream. If you make it automatic, then you can be sure that most of your lucid dreams will be long, fun, and you'll be sober

I still had doubts about a year ago, like you did, about how much "you" is really carried into the dream, so I tried to test it out in a LD and see for myself. Turns out if you "stabilize" enough, it is 100% you.

Lots of people here have gotten to a much higher level of lucidity than I have though. The best way to know imo is to make it your goal

Hi Higat, when i become lucid, its usually murky and 'dark'. I remain calm and do a nose plug but then i never stabilize properly or if i do its usually a half heated attempt such as quickly rubbing hands without any real thought all because i am panicking that i only have moments until the dream ends so i want to get as much done as possible. As expected my dreams end within 30 seconds due to not stabilizing enough / properly

Whats your stabilizing routine and do you have any tips. Should i get the dream stable and clear before commencing on a lucid adventure first?

      Thanks

      Hi

I think that one thing which may help is to see stabilization as a fun thing to try while lucid dreaming, versus something that you have to do in order to stay in the dream. Maybe make something like "increase dream realism" your goal ?

I don't really have a stabilization routine. I just rub my hands together and touch things, as I pay attention to the dreamworld and how realistic it is. Can I feel my leg muscles contract as I walk ? Can I feel the wind around me ? Stuff like that.
In almost everyone of my longer and more realistic LDs, you'll find that I'm almost constantly stabilizing (usually rubbing my hands together) when I'm not doing anything that requires me to shift my attention.
The way I do dream control also heavily relies on sensations, so that might help.

      Hope it helps, good luck

Merci beaucoup Higat ! This means a lot, i now know without doubt that real lucidity exists and is quite the norm among lucid dreams, i can now start climbing the mountain with my newfound motivation.

I have only started lding for about a month now and from a scale of 1 - 10, my lucidity level is about a 4. I get many dreams where I'm dreaming of lucid dreaming, where I just get an inkling of lucidity in my dreams however I believe that if you reach a level 10 in lucidity level, it is pretty much you fully in the dream and not just dreaming of lucidity. I've read many posts on here from the more experienced dreamers they have had dreams where their awareness and their surroundings were just as realistic as real life

Yes i was toying with the idea that for the next few lucid dreams, i would try to see how much clarity / stable i could make my dream as the actual goal of the lucid dream itself. The issue is once lucid, one wants to 'get going' and fly off to fight dragons etc. It may not be as exciting but once real stabilization is achieved within the dream , then it will be much longer and clearer and i really can go and fuck up those fire breathing oversized chicken heads lol.

So yes, great advice, for the next few lucids, my goal will be to get a real grip of clarity and stabilization and then it will become the norm at the beginning of an LD

Also, do you have a DEILD plan in mind when you are in a lucid dream for when it fades? If so, what do you do exactly? thank you

      Thanks for the advice

generally about 6-9, but I can bring it up to 10 if I slow down and think about it.

You have had a lucid dream, because as long as some part of you knows that it is a dream, it is lucid. It may not have been a "conscious" lucid dream, but that is not the question.

In order to get higher levels of awareness during lucid dreams regularly, you really need to get into the habit of slowing down and raising your awareness. The slowing down gives "you" a second to catch up to the fact that you are dreaming. Often I will be unconscious lucid dreaming and doing stuff, when I suddenly stop and am like "NOOO!!! I know I am dreaming, I need to slow down and think!" I then think about goals and the like, comparing what I was planning on doing versus how awesome the place is. If the place is extremely awesome, I just explore.

Also, to the DEILD plan, if I ever feel the dream fading, I just try to stabilize, and if it doesn't work I calm down and wait. If there is a FA or actual waking, I can do a RC (non-mobile) and then continue from there.
